Polaris Triumphs at Baja 500
This past weekend,
Polaris Off Road reinforced its dominance in SCORE competition by sweeping the UTV Overall podium at the
57th SCORE Baja 500. The company secured all top nine positions, demonstrating its prowess in off-road racing. Leading the charge was
Branden Sims, who clinched victory with a strategic and steady performance behind the wheel of his
RZR Pro R Factory.
Sims, a seasoned racer, made his way through the competition starting from the sixth position, carefully navigating the challenging 468-mile course while steering clear of mistakes. With patience and disciplined racing tactics, he capitalized on a late-race opportunity to seize the lead, a move that proved pivotal as he maintained his advantage all the way to the finish line. This win marks a significant milestone as it was Sims' first SCORE victory since 2022, and his second race driving the new RZR Pro R Factory.
“Today was incredible, and it feels so good to get back on top and earn a win,” said Sims. “The new RZR was absolutely dialed in and performed flawlessly all day long. We had a smart race plan, maintained a strong pace, and picked our lines carefully.”
Completing the all-Polaris podium were fellow racers
Wayne Matlock in second place and
Ethan Groom, a rookie in the RZR Factory Racing team, in third. Both drivers showcased exceptional skills as they steadily progressed from their starting positions of ninth and outside the top 10, respectively. Following Sims, Matlock and Groom's impressive performances solidified Polaris' control over the day’s race.
The results didn’t stop at the podium sweep. The top nine overall UTV finishing positions were all claimed by Polaris entries, highlighting the depth of its racing program.
Mitch Guthrie Jr. finished fourth, followed by
Dallas Gonzalez in fifth place. The racing prowess was further exhibited by
Joe Terrana and co-driver
Rodrigo Ampudia, who placed sixth, while
Mike Cafro,
Sebastian Marquez, and
Kristen Matlock rounded out the top nine.
A significant highlight of the race was that the RZR Pro R Factory machines dominated the top six overall finishes, which are known for their durability and performance on the harsh Baja terrains.
“We couldn't be prouder of our racers and the entire team,” expressed Alex Scheuerell, Polaris' Director of Off-Road Motorsports. “The achievement at the Baja 500 showcases the incredible capabilities of the RZR Pro R Factory platform, which continues to set a benchmark in off-road racing.”
Following this stellar performance, the RZR Factory Racing team will head back to the United States for the
Best In The Desert Vegas to Reno race, scheduled for
August 12-16. This upcoming event is recognized as one of the longest and most demanding off-road races in the country, promising another opportunity for Polaris to shine.
