Kuradashi Selected as a Finalist for the Japan DX Awards 2026

Kuradashi Selected as Finalist for the Japan DX Awards 2026

Kuradashi, a company based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, led by CEO Kohei Kawamura, has gained notable recognition as a finalist for the Japan DX Awards 2026. Out of 186 applicants, only 24 companies made it to the finals, emphasizing Kuradashi's groundbreaking initiatives aimed at addressing social and business challenges through digital transformation (DX) for sustainable growth. The awards will showcase the finalists during a public presentation scheduled for June 16, where Kuradashi competes in the Sustainability Division alongside three other finalists.

Background on Kuradashi's Selection

Kuradashi has established a unique market model aimed at reducing food waste. By purchasing food items that are still consumable but difficult to sell through regular distribution channels—such as those with near expiration dates, seasonal products, or damaged packaging—the company provides these goods at discounted rates to consumers through its socially responsible marketplace, Kuradashi. This model, termed 1.5-tier distribution, not only helps in minimizing waste but also promotes a culture of sustainability.

However, Kuradashi believes that simply reacting to food waste isn't enough; lasting solutions must also prevent food waste from occurring in the first place. To this end, Kuradashi has pioneered an innovative AI-driven inventory forecasting engine, dubbed Kuradashi Forecast, which utilizes extensive purchasing and inventory data from its 640,000 member profiles. This technology not only optimizes in-house operations but also provides valuable data feedback to food manufacturers and distributors, facilitating better production planning and reducing surplus production.

The Innovatory DX Project

The project Kuradashi has put forth for consideration in the awards, titled “Designing to Avoid Surplus: A Food Waste Cure Using Inventory Forecasting AI,” represents a significant step towards a more sustainable approach to tackling food waste. By generating predictive analytics, Kuradashi aims to transform the food industry's structural challenges and shift the focus toward a sustainable future.

Insights from the Marketing Team

Masanao Yoshida, Head of Marketing and Project Lead at Kuradashi, expressed, “It is a great honor for us to be selected as a finalist for such a prestigious award as the Japan DX Awards. Our approach to DX goes beyond the mere introduction of digital tools. We aim to open data platforms related to 1.5-tier distribution, aiming to revolutionize the entire food industry structure. We look forward to deepening partnerships with more businesses and leveraging data as a means to tackle the fundamental issues of food waste. We welcome expectations for the future of our service, Kuradashi Forecast.”

Kuradashi remains committed to transforming social challenges into value through sustainable business practices, and is continuously exploring ways to create a tangible impact on society, the environment, and the economy. The company envisions becoming Japan's leading impact enterprise group and will persist in its efforts towards this goal.
