Blockchain for Good Alliance: Innovating for Sustainability
The Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), a leading non-profit organization founded by Bybit, successfully hosted the highly anticipated Forum 2025 in Copenhagen. This event took place alongside the Alternative Finance Lab (AltFinLab) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and focused on fostering impactful blockchain applications that can significantly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A Gathering of Innovators
Held on November 4-5, the forum attracted over 300 attendees from more than 30 countries, including policymakers, technologists, and leaders in various impact sectors. The event provided a platform for participants to examine measurable advancements made possible by blockchain technology, with a specific emphasis on real-world issues such as financial inclusion, sustainability, and digital trust. The interactive sessions included keynote speeches, panel discussions, and project presentations that illuminated the potential of blockchain for social good.
Key Themes of the Forum
The discussions were organized around three main themes:
1.
Blockchain for Digital Public Goods: This theme covered governance challenges, digital identity, and transparent data systems.
2.
Finance for Inclusion and Impact: This explored how blockchain can democratize access to capital and enhance financial equity.
3.
Sustainability and Climate Responsibility: This focused on the applications of blockchain in tracking carbon emissions, ensuring supply chain traceability, and facilitating environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting.
Prominent speakers included Helen Liu, Co-CEO of Bybit and founder of BGA, Robert Pasicko from UNDP's AltFinLab, and industry leaders from various blockchain organizations. Their insights underscored the evolving role of blockchain in establishing trustworthy systems that bridge innovation with global developmental needs.
Helen Liu emphasized BGA's mission: “Blockchain technology has matured far beyond speculation. During the forum, we witnessed how designers, governments, and institutions are harnessing it to promote transparency, accountability, and tangible social impacts.”
Celebrating Excellence: The BGAwards 2025
The event culminated with the BGAwards, which honored outstanding blockchain initiatives driving measurable contributions to the SDGs. Among the winners were Genius Tags, Plastiks, and ZenGate, each recognized for their innovative approaches to tackling pressing global challenges. The award categories celebrated initiatives at different development phases, from ideation to growth, showcasing the potential of blockchain innovations in creating sustainable solutions.
Commitment to Collaboration
Throughout the two days, participants reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts between public and private sectors to ensure that blockchain innovations align with human development goals. The forum highlighted how blockchain could strengthen institutional trust, unlock new financing models, and establish transparent systems that promote social and environmental progress.
Helen Liu concluded, “What we have experienced in Copenhagen is the emergence of a movement where blockchain provides a shared infrastructure of trust and accountability. At BGA, our mission is to transform innovation into impact, ensuring that every block constructed contributes to a fairer and more sustainable future.”
