Overview of the 1st Tokyo General Practice Symposium
The General Association of Community and Community Hospitals, rooted in Taito, Tokyo, is set to hold its inaugural Tokyo General Practice Symposium on October 25, 2025. In collaboration with Juntendo University and the Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital Corporation, the event aims to shed light on the challenges faced by many local small hospitals and explore how general practitioners can serve as key players in overcoming these management hurdles.
The Significance of General Practitioners
Small hospitals across Japan find themselves at a crucial juncture due to issues like manpower shortages, specialist fragmentation, and the increasing complexity of community needs. It is clear that relying solely on specialists who handle individual diseases is insufficient for optimizing hospital operations and fulfilling the needs of comprehensive community care.
In this context, the General Association of Community and Community Hospitals firmly believes that general practitioners, who look at patients holistically and play a role in linking various hospital departments and community healthcare, can be fundamental in revitalizing small hospitals and transforming them into indispensable community assets.
The symposium promises to investigate the value of general practitioners from a management perspective, moving beyond mere ideals. One highlight will be a presentation by Masahiko Ogasawara, Deputy Director of Douzen Hospital, associated with the association, focusing on successful management improvements realized through the introduction of general practitioners. Additionally, Yoshinoko Oishi, a board member of the association and a leader in hospital management support through MediVa, will propose a new hospital management model centered around general practitioners.
