The 14th All Japan Advertising Awards Winners Announced



On December 10, 2023, the All Japan Advertising Federation (Zenkoren), led by Chairman Akira Ohira, held a committee meeting to announce the winners of the 14th All Japan Advertising Awards. This year saw remarkable individuals from various fields recognized for their contributions to advertising and culture. The prestigious awards and their recipients are as follows:

Matsushita Award: Akio Nitoh


Akio Nitoh, Chairman and CEO of Nitori Holdings


Graduating from Hokkai Gakuen University with a degree in economics, Akio Nitoh founded the Nitoh Furniture Store in Sapporo in 1967. He established Nitori Co., Ltd. in 1972 and became the company's president in 1978. Under his leadership, Nitori has evolved into a leading manufacturer and retailer in Japan. In addition to his business accomplishments, Nitoh is also dedicated to education. In 2005, he established the Nitoh International Scholarship Foundation, supporting domestic and international students.

Nitoh’s commitment to providing quality living at affordable prices is encapsulated in his company’s tagline, "O, nedan ijou" which translates to "It’s worth more than the price." His work not only improved product accessibility but also influenced standards in how consumers approach home furnishings. Nitoh's holistic approach to business, combined with his social contributions, earned him the Matsushita Award, highlighting his role as both a business leader and a community pillar.

Seiryu Award: Hiroshi Yanai

Hiroshi Yanai began his journey by launching the monthly information magazine “PIA” while still a student at Chuo University in 1972. He founded PIA Corporation in 1974, serving as its president. Yanai has reshaped how entertainment information is shared, creating avenues for people to connect with cultural events.

In his numerous roles, including President of the PIA Film Festival and advisor to multiple cultural organizations, Yanai has been an agent of change in the entertainment ecosystem. Notably, he launched the “Ticket PIA” service, which has revolutionized ticket distribution in Japan. His accolades reflect his dedication to fostering entertainment and culture, warranting the Seiryu Award due to his long-term impact on the industry and contribution to recovery efforts following the East Japan earthquake.

Yoshida Award: Risa Tanaka


Risa Tanaka, President of Advanced Institute of Business


After graduating from Gakushuin University's literature department with a focus on American literature, Risa Tanaka held various significant roles, including editor-in-chief at “Advertising Review.” Since 2016, she has served as the president of the Advanced Institute of Business. Her expertise spans PR, marketing, and branding, influencing projects like the Tokyo 2020 emblem and various national initiatives.

Tanaka’s leadership is characterized by her innovative approach to business education, addressing modern challenges through strategic initiatives and collaboration with local governments and organizations. As an advocate for sustainability and social change, her achievements have made her a prominent figure recognized by the Yoshida Award.

Yamana Award: Ryoko Ishio


Ryoko Ishio, Art Director and Founder of Ishio Design Office


Graduating from Tama Art University, Ryoko Ishio turned her creativity into impactful designs for numerous high-profile clients, including SEIKO and Sony. Over the years, her work has encompassed a variety of domains from advertisement campaigns to fashion show set designs.

Ishio has garnered several prestigious awards, including the ADC Grand Prix and the Japan Display Design Association’s top honors. Her commitment to promoting art and design in contemporary contexts, combined with her role as director of the Shibuya Cultural Center, reflects her dedication to cultural advancement, earning her the Yamana Award.

Special Award: The 2025 World Expo Association


Contribution to the 2025 World Expo in Osaka/Kansai


The 2025 World Expo Association has been recognized for its significant role in facilitating the upcoming World Expo in Osaka, themed "Designing Future Societies for Our Lives." This event, promising the largest international participation yet with over 158 countries, aims to address global issues through cultural exchanges and technological innovations.

The association's dedication to sustainability and the educational values embedded in the Expo’s program highlight its commitment to global challenges. These efforts, along with the vast participation, have set a high standard for future expositions, leading to their receipt of the Special Award.

The All Japan Advertising Awards serve to honor those who elevate the advertising profession by acknowledging their exceptional contributions. The awards will be presented during the ceremony at the Shizuoka Grandship Hall on May 13, 2024, during the 74th All Japan Advertising Federation Shizuoka Convention, emphasizing values of creativity, cultural development, and social responsibility.
