SmartSens Unveils Advanced Automotive Imaging Solutions at AutoSens Europe 2026

In a significant reveal at AutoSens Europe 2026, held from September 22 to 24 in La Farga de L'Hospitalet, Barcelona, SmartSens showcased its remarkable portfolio of automotive-grade image sensors and integrated imaging and computing solutions aimed at various vehicle applications. As a leading technological supplier of CMOS image sensors and the third largest in terms of volume shipments in the CIS market in 2025, SmartSens's innovative architecture merges imaging and computing effectively to advance global smart driving technologies.

During the event, SmartSens's Automotive Division engaged in extensive product discussions with various global partners. Toby Zou, co-general manager of this division, delivered a keynote speech at a technical forum held concurrently with the event.

The company presented its solutions for integrated front camera modules, powered by the M2 SoC from its subsidiary Flyingchip, capturing considerable attention through a live demonstration. These solutions utilize the automotive-grade SC860AT (8.3 MP) sensor for front image capturing and the SC233AT for Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), allowing vehicles to meticulously monitor their surroundings while maintaining precision imaging, even under challenging lighting conditions. Furthermore, these sensor sets provide consistent image quality and reliable inference for side, rear, and occupant monitoring cameras (OMS) within the cabin, as well as camera-based mirror systems.

The OMS solution merges the SC533AT— a 5 MP automotive-grade image sensor—with Flyingchip's M1 SoC. The SC533AT excels with its high sensitivity, low noise levels, and excellent shutter efficiency, ensuring the clarity and precision of images necessary for reliable operation. This image sensor-based solution detects the presence of passengers, children, pets, or forgotten objects in the vehicle, alongside facilitating internal photography and video conferencing within the cabin.

For panoramic vision applications, SmartSens introduced a 360-degree solution based on the SC360AT sensor (3 MP). In extreme lighting conditions, such as backlighting and glare from approaching vehicle headlights at night, the system effectively mitigates overexposure while preserving essential details in shadowed areas, thus enhancing safety and convenience during parking or navigating narrow roads.

On the second day of the event, during the technical forum, Toby Zou was invited to present a keynote titled "Driving Smart Mobility Advancements in HDR and High Resolution in CMOS Image Sensors (CIS) for Automotive." Zou highlighted the ongoing global growth of new energy vehicles and the automotive industry’s shift toward automated driving levels 3 and 4, emphasizing that the imaging performance of CMOS sensors—especially in complex scenarios—is becoming crucial for system perception. His presentation covered pixel architecture, HDR, global shutter technology, and system-level integration, alongside discussing how a tighter integration between image capture and computing can propel automotive vision across a wide array of use cases. He also showcased SmartSens's CMOS image sensor (CIS) portfolio as an integrated platform for next-generation vehicle perception applications.

SmartSens effectively combines flexible sensor integration, advanced image processing, and innovative detection technologies for the automotive sector. This unified offering provides automakers and Tier 1 suppliers access to flexible and reliable imaging solutions designed for large-scale implementation in advanced driving systems.
