Envision and Sasol Collaborate to Advance Green Hydrogen Systems in South Africa

Envision and Sasol Team Up for Green Hydrogen Development

In a significant move towards sustainable energy systems, Envision Energy, a global leader in green technologies, has announced a partnership with Sasol, an international energy and chemical company, to advance the design of a future green hydrogen system at Sasolburg, South Africa. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in research focused on how future energy systems can successfully integrate renewable energy, energy storage, and electrolyzer technologies to facilitate the development of low-carbon fuels and chemicals such as e-methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.

During a recent visit by the South African Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, to the "Zero Emission Hydrogen" industrial park in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, this cooperation was highlighted at the Energy Investment Conference between South Africa and China.

Leveraging Envision's expertise in renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen, and AI-based energy management, the design study will assess how renewable energy production, energy storage, and electrolyzer systems can be integrated to optimize green hydrogen production based on energy availability, market conditions, and operational requirements.

Expected to be completed by the end of the year, this design study will provide valuable technical and commercial insights for future investment decisions. Sasol is exploring opportunities to leverage its existing industrial capabilities and infrastructure while investigating technologies that could support its energy transition and create new business avenues.

"Green hydrogen will play a crucial role in transforming sectors where emissions reduction is challenging and in creating new pathways for sustainable growth. By integrating AI-powered energy infrastructures and innovative technologies in renewable energy, storage, and green hydrogen, Envision collaborates with global partners like Sasol to develop future energy systems that are limitless, intelligent, and affordable, thus accelerating industrial transformation and creating new opportunities for industries and communities worldwide," stated Kane Xu, Senior Vice President and President of the International Products Division at Envision Energy.

Danie Cronje, Senior Vice President of Sasol responsible for business development, commented, "The design study with Envision represents a significant milestone in evaluating the extent to which the integration of renewable energies, energy storage, and electrolyzer technologies could enable competitive green hydrogen production in Sasolburg. By building on our world-leading expertise and Sasol's existing industrial capabilities, we can explore how these technologies might contribute to establishing future low-carbon value chains for fuels and chemicals."

As the world shifts towards a more sustainable energy landscape, initiatives like the collaboration between Envision and Sasol highlight critical advancements in energy innovation. Their efforts demonstrate a commitment to addressing climate challenges through technology and collaboration, setting a precedent for future partnerships in the energy sector.

With the current demand for clean energy and a strong push from global governments to reduce carbon emissions, such collaborations become vital. This partnership not only showcases the potential of green hydrogen but also emphasizes the importance of industrial collaboration in achieving sustainable solutions. As both companies embark on this groundbreaking project, the journey toward a greener and more sustainable future for energy production is just beginning.
