BRC Therapeutics Welcomes Chandra Ramanathan as EVP of Commercialization and Strategy

In a significant move aimed at enhancing its commercialization strategy, BRC Therapeutics has announced the appointment of Chandra Ramanathan, Ph.D., M.B.A., as the Executive Vice President of Commercialization and Strategy. This appointment marks a pivotal moment for BRC, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that focuses on developing innovative multimodal cannabinoid therapeutics geared at treating neurological and inflammatory conditions.

Ramanathan comes with over three decades of rich experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. His extensive background includes a plethora of leadership roles where he has been instrumental in drug development, global product launches, and commercialization processes. His previous position at Danaher Corporation saw him thrive as the Vice President and Global Head of Innovation Hubs. This role involved spearheading product-oriented partnerships that significantly advanced genomic medicine, diagnostics, and biomanufacturing.

Prior to his tenure at Danaher, Ramanathan spent more than a decade at Bayer, where he led the Pharma Research and Development Open Innovation initiative. His responsibilities included overseeing an annual budget exceeding $90 million dedicated to partnerships with more than 50 academic and biotech institutions. His time at Bayer was distinguished by leading numerous strategic collaborations with prestigious partners such as the Broad Institute and the MassGeneral Brigham. His efforts were vital in expanding Bayer’s oncology clinical portfolio from two to fifteen assets in just five years.

Ramanathan is not new to the world of commercial drug launches. He played a pivotal role in the global teams that facilitated the launches of significant therapies including Bosulif®, Aliqopa®, Orencia®, and Sprycel® throughout his career at companies like Wyeth (now Pfizer) and Bristol Myers Squibb. His diverse skills across multiple domains, including product development and companion diagnostics strategy, position him uniquely to lead BRC into its next stage of growth.

George Hodgin, the Founder and CEO of BRC Therapeutics, expressed confidence in Ramanathan's expertise, stating, "Chandra has spent his career doing precisely what BRC needs next, progressing promising science into the next phase of clinical development and ultimately into approved medicines that reach patients. His judgment and breadth of experience will be invaluable as we pursue new opportunities."

Ramanathan shares this sentiment, stating, "BRC is pursuing something genuinely novel: FDA-regulated cannabinoid medicines for patients who currently lack sufficient treatment options. My goal has always been to help companies translate early scientific potential into commercial realities. The opportunity to do this at BRC excites me greatly."

In addition to his role at BRC, Ramanathan serves as the Chairperson for Nucleate, a nonprofit organization focused on cultivating the next generation of biotech entrepreneurs. He also holds advisory positions with esteemed institutions including the Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School. His impressive academic credentials include an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a Ph.D. in Genomics and Bioinformatics from the University of Georgia.

BRC Therapeutics is steadfast in its commitment to developing innovative therapeutic solutions for chronic pain and other debilitating symptoms associated with a variety of conditions. Currently, the company is advancing its pipeline of investigational medicines targeted at conditions like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), among others. The addition of Ramanathan to their leadership team signals a significant step forward for BRC as they prepare to move into pivotal clinical trials and broaden their therapeutic reach.
