A Celebration of Costumes at Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2026
The highly anticipated
Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2026 is set to take place from
October 30 to November 1, 2026, marking the return of Halloween celebrations on the actual day for the first time in five years. This event is proudly presented by a committee consisting of prominent companies, including Dwango, Animate, Hakosta, Sunshine City, as well as the Toshima Ward.
This festival, commonly known as
Ikebukuro Halloween (Ikiharo), is celebrated primarily in the Ikebukuro East Exit area of Toshima and has grown to become one of Japan’s largest Halloween cosplay events since its inception in 2014. Last year, despite inclement weather,
over 161,000 attendees graced the three-day event, showcasing the strong affection fans have for cosplay and the vibrant community it fosters.
This year promises an array of exciting activities designed to immerse participants in the rich world of cosplay culture. As always, one of the main highlights will be the
Niconico Cosplay Collection, where cosplayers will strut their stuff on the runway, alongside the ever-popular family-oriented event,
Halloween with Kids. Additionally, a
Cosplay Parade will take place on the main streets of Ikebukuro, allowing around
400 cosplayers to enthusiastically march to the delight of onlookers, effectively transforming the area into a festive scene.
The
first day of the event, October 30, will particularly stand out with the introduction of an evening program called
Ikiharo Night, which will allow attendees to enjoy night-time photography opportunities from
4:30 PM to 10:30 PM. The subsequent two days, October 31 and November 1, will see the festivities run all day long, from
10 AM to 6 PM.
On the much-awaited
Halloween day, October 31,
Enako, a world-renowned cosplayer, will attend as a special guest for the first time in
seven years. Known for her phenomenal skills and vibrant presence in the cosplay world, she will grace the event in a costume based on
Haruhi Suzumiya, marking her nostalgic connection to her roots in cosplay.
Further details and updates regarding the various activities will be revealed in due course. Tickets for the event will go on sale starting from
September 4, 2026. Please note that participation in the
Ikiharo Night event is restricted to individuals aged
18 and above, meaning high school students will not be admitted.
Official Comments from Enako
Enako expressed her excitement about participating in the festival, stating, “I am thrilled to have contributed to the key visual for Ikiharo 2026! I hope the final poster conveys a delightful sense of anticipation. Let's enjoy the event together on the day!”
Reflecting on Past Successes
According to
Toshima Ward Mayor Miyuki Takagi, this year’s festival marks its
13th iteration. She highlighted last year’s achievement of attracting over
160,000 attendees despite challenging weather. Mayor Takagi emphasized the event’s importance in fostering a culture around cosplay, allowing both participants and supporters to enjoy and safeguard this cherished aspect of Japanese culture.
As the festival looms closer, preparations are being made to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, with efforts rooted in collaboration between various enterprises within Manga and Anime-oriented Toshima City. Mayor Takagi shared her determination to wear a costume herself, promising a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
