'Exploring 'Tokyo Girls': A Visual Journey into Y's 2025-26 A/W Collection'
From November 2 to November 14, 2025, Y's Omotesando will host a remarkable exhibition entitled 'Tokyo Girls,' featuring the stunning photo series by acclaimed photographer Max Vadukul. Following its successful debut in Paris at Y's PARIS LOUVRE, this exhibition presents Vadukul's artistic interpretation of the brand's 2025-26 Autumn/Winter collection. His work diverges from the typical imagery of Tokyo, moving away from the vibrant neon lights and busy intersections. Instead, he seeks to illuminate the very essence of Tokyo, revealing the city's skeletal structure and its inherent elegance.
Vadukul himself described his approach to this project with passion: “I had no interest in the typical Tokyo that everyone imagines. No neon lights or busy intersections for me. I was captivated by the void, the pressure, the surveillance, and the peculiar elegance lurking within these elements.” This series is not merely a collection of fashion photos; it is a performance in its own right.
The exhibition features Japanese actress Ai Hashimoto alongside three other performers, embodying characters within psychological landscapes. Each participant, dressed in Y's 2025-26 A/W collection, stands out amidst the unified aesthetic, creating a dynamic interplay of form and expression. The performer dubbed the “shadow photographer” dons Y's for men, encircling and engaging the other performers, generating a narrative woven with tension and shadows.
A Testament to Creativity
The vibrancy captured in Vadukul's photography continues to build upon the narrative established in previous seasons, including the Y's 2023-24 A/W and 2024 S/S collections. These works encapsulate the creative direction established by Claudio Dell’olio, Y's's creative director, reflecting a coherent vision and design ethos.
As part of this initiative, customers making purchases of 44,000 yen (tax included) or more from the 2025-26 A/W collection will receive a special photo book encapsulating the 'Tokyo Girls' photo series, available until supplies last. It's a collector's item designed to be a testament to the artistic journey of this collaboration.
A Fusion of Technology and Art
In addition to the still imagery, the 'Tokyo Girls' project expands through a sophisticated video piece that showcases the integration of technology and artistry. Animated by Daniele Basilico, the video enriches the narrative, endowing the photo series with added depth, rhythm, and texture, thereby enhancing the overall experience.
Vadukul's work for 'Tokyo Girls' is interwoven with the spirit and momentum reminiscent of his earlier collaborations with Yohji Yamamoto in the 1980s. This latest endeavor captures the graceful tension between elegance and imperfection, control and chaos—elements that, when combined, give rise to a new interpretation of the Y's 2025-26 A/W collection.
