Expanding Access to Herbal Education with Herbs for All
This year marks a significant milestone for Traditional Medicinals® as they celebrate their 50th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, the leading botanical wellness company and Certified B Corporation has introduced the
Herbs for All initiative. This program aims to broaden access to herbal education and promote grassroots wellness initiatives across the United States. With a commitment to health equity and community empowerment, Traditional Medicinals is taking a bold step forward in making herbal wellness accessible to all.
Over the past year, the Traditional Medicinals Foundation has allocated over
$75,000 in grants to various nonprofit organizations dedicated to enhancing health and herbal wellness in their respective communities. Additionally, the company has invested more than
$200,000 in initiatives that aim to increase accessibility to high-quality herbal products, educational resources, and consumer awareness regarding trusted certifications such as Organic, Fair for Life, and FairWild. Together, these efforts emphasize the company's dedication to ensuring that reliable herbal care is within everyone's reach.
As part of the Herbs for All initiative, Traditional Medicinals has launched two cornerstone programs:
Planting Wellness and
Plant Wisdom Collective. The aim of these programs is to create community-driven avenues for education and healing through herbal knowledge.
Planting Wellness: Supporting Grassroots Nonprofits
The
Planting Wellness program is designed to support community-driven nonprofits that preserve and impart valuable herbal knowledge in underserved areas. Through this initiative, the Traditional Medicinals Foundation provides
$20,000 grants to fund local workshops, healing spaces, and hands-on educational experiences tailored to the specific needs of their communities.
This program is set to begin with several key partners in 2025, including:
1.
Oko Farms (Brooklyn, NY): Founded by educator Yemi Amu, this organization transformed an abandoned lot into New York City’s first outdoor aquaponics farm. The grant will enable them to expand educational programs that integrate environmental justice principles and ancestral wisdom.
2.
The Botanical Bus (Sonoma County, CA): This initiative delivers bilingual herbalism, acupuncture, and massage directly to Latine and Indigenous communities. The support from Traditional Medicinals will allow for the expansion of their community-led healing events and workshops focused on herbal medicine.
As Jamie Horst, Chief Purpose Officer of Traditional Medicinals, articulated: “With Planting Wellness, we're supporting the true leaders of community health—those organizations that have cultivated knowledge and resilience for generations.” The program anticipates expanding nationally in 2026, with plans to award up to
10 mini-grants to qualified nonprofits each year.
Plant Wisdom Collective: A Free Herbal Education Platform
Alongside Planting Wellness, the
Plant Wisdom Collective serves as a free herbal education platform, aiming to demystify herbal wellness for those curious about the practice. This initiative features a video series exploring the art, science, and tradition of herbal medicine, led by Traditional Medicinals' Chief Science Officer, Dr. Taryn Forrelli, and Senior Scientist and Herbalist Guido Masé.
The four-part series offers insights into the historical roots of herbalism, the sourcing of high-quality ingredients, and the fusion of tradition and modern science in herbal products. Participants can engage with the content through an interactive landing page, which also includes a curated
Plant Wisdom Collective Kit containing herbal teas and an herbal preparation guide.
“This series offers a welcoming place to learn from trusted herbalists and start building a meaningful relationship with plants—wherever you are in your journey,” said Dr. Forrelli.
As Traditional Medicinals reflects on its 50 years of expertise in herbal wellness, the launch of Herbs for All not only commemorates their legacy but also serves as a call to action. The initiative seeks to honor the communities that have long sustained traditional plant medicine while committing to ensuring that more individuals can tap into the healing benefits of herbs. Whether you’re participating in a local farm workshop or engaging with educational resources online, Herbs for All emphasizes the vital connections to nature, culture, and community.
