On August 24, 2025, Ueno Marui will officially celebrate 40 years since its opening. The store started its journey on August 24, 1985, marked by the launch of Japan's first dedicated food floor, the 'Shoku Yuukan', with the catchy phrase 'This Marui has cabbages too!'.

The festival’s vibrant visual design is conceptualized by Shion Takashima, a talented artist recognized from a TV project in 2021. Her playful artwork, which features childlike innocence, will primarily showcase a beloved panda, capturing the essence of Ueno's charm and bringing smiles to all.
The first part of the anniversary celebration runs from July 25 to August 23 and is themed 'Expressing Gratitude After 40 Years'. During this month, approximately 30 shops will offer exclusive anniversary-related novelties, discounts, and services.
Visitors can also participate in immersive activities, such as a photo exhibition reflecting on the 40-year history of Ueno and a 'What I Love About Ueno' message board where guests can share their favorite aspects of the area. This initiative aims to rediscover the allure of Ueno through community interaction.
