The highly anticipated Da Yankee Exhibition is set to make a grand return from April 18 to May 10, 2026, at the event space located on the 7th floor of Kitasenju Marui in Tokyo. Following the success of its first edition in February, where it captured the hearts of many, the exhibition promises an expanded experience that celebrates the vibrant 'Yankee culture' of Japan. With a venue three times larger than before, attendees can look forward to new displays and exciting interactive experiences.

Under the theme of 'Yankee culture', the exhibition offers a nostalgic feel for those familiar with this significant subculture, while also introducing a new generation to its retro-pop charm. The event’s official character, 'Mabu & Tomo', designed by the internationally recognized artist Hideyuki Tanaka, sets the stage for this cultural exploration.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the authentic recreation of a classic Yankee's room, where the meticulous attention to detail is expected to mesmerize visitors. Additionally, an impressive display of 'modified motorcycles' will be featured, allowing guests to capture unique photos alongside immersive backgrounds.

A Hit at Omiya: The First Exhibition’s Success

The inaugural Da Yankee Exhibition held in Omiya in February this year was a resounding success, attracting crowds eager to experience the allure of Yankee culture. Visitors were treated to rare displays, including authentic 'Gakuseifuku' (modified student uniforms), 'Tokkofuku' (combat suits), and motorcycles under the guidance of experts in the field, such as Kenichiro Iwahashi and Mero Yamashita, renowned for their contributions to retro culture.

The atmosphere was electric as attendees of all ages mingled, reminiscing about the past while being captivated by the vibrant displays. Long queues formed outside the venue, highlighting the overwhelming enthusiasm. Even young people unfamiliar with this culture expressed delight at the bright aesthetics, finding the lavish retro style to be 'cute' and 'emotionally resonant'. Many spent time trying on Gakuseifuku at specially designated photo spots, fostering intergenerational connections as they explored the unique aspects of Yankee culture.

What’s New at the Upcoming Exhibition

Responding to audience demand, the upcoming exhibition will feature an expanded layout over three times the size of the previous one, along with an extended duration of over three weeks. This event will enhance popular exhibits and interactive features, further engaging attendees.

1. Enhanced Displays and New Additions:
New displays will feature different types of modified motorcycles, alongside the distinctive 'Tokkofuku' and 'Gakuseifuku'. This time, visitors can also read the poems inscribed on the authentic Tokkofuku at close range, with opportunities to try these iconic outfits themselves.

2. Expanded Experience and Photo Spots:
The exhibition will introduce additional opportunities for guest participation, such as trying out modified bicycles and motorcycles. A unique collaboration will also showcase beloved characters from global hits like 'Heidi, Girl of the Alps,' allowing guests to take photos with characters such as 'Heidi' and her companions in Yanqui attire. This collaboration promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience.
Moreover, a nostalgic collaboration with 'Name Neko', a phenomenon from the 1980s, will also be on display, providing attendees with the opportunity to take tribute photos with the iconic cat.

Exclusive Merchandise

Due to the overwhelming popularity of exclusive merchandise during the first event, select items will be re-released for the Kitasenju exhibition, alongside newly introduced goods. The merchandise will feature designs inspired by Mabu and Tomo, as well as collaborations with popular franchises like 'Heidi' and 'Name Neko.'
