Seegene Unveils CURECA™: Next-Gen Automated PCR Solutions for Customizable Lab Automation

Seegene Introduces CURECA™: A Revolutionary Approach to PCR Automation

On April 17, 2025, at the ESCMID Global 2025 attended in Vienna, Austria, Seegene Inc., a global leader in molecular diagnostic testing, unveiled its concept for CURECA™ - an advanced automated PCR solution designed to redefine laboratory automation.

The Vision Behind CURECA™

CURECA™, which stands for Continuous Unlimited Random access Expandable and Customizable full Automation, represents Seegene's commitment to enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) workflows. The system is tailored for round-the-clock operations, allowing for a seven-day-a-week service without requiring constant operator supervision. This innovative approach reflects Seegene's goal of creating a world free of diseases by setting a new global standard in diagnostic testing.

A Comprehensive Automation Solution

CURECA™ consists of two primary components: the Customizable Pre-treatment System (CPS) and the Customizable and Expandable Full Automation (CEFA). The CPS is instrumental for loading samples and managing the pre-treatment process, while CEFA covers the entire workflow, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR setup, and result analysis.

This fully automated system minimizes human intervention, thereby significantly reducing the potential for errors while enhancing throughput. The CPS is capable of independently operating outside the complete CURECA™ system, making it applicable to various laboratory fields, including hematology, biochemistry, and immunodiagnostics.

Addressing Challenges in MDx Diagnostics

In molecular diagnostics, sample pre-treatment is critical yet labor-intensive, requiring meticulous handling of diverse sample types, including stool, urine, and blood. Traditionally reliant on skilled human labor, the process is inefficient and prone to errors. Seegene aims to transform this landscape by automating critical steps such as sample sorting, centrifugation, vortexing, and heat treatments through its CPS.

The modular design of CURECA™ allows laboratories to customize the system according to their operational needs, facilitating high-volume PCR testing consistently and reducing the likelihood of manual errors. At the ESCMID Global 2025, Seegene offered a detailed simulation of the complete PCR automation workflow, showcasing the adaptability of the system to different laboratory environments and capacities.

Supporting Global Healthcare Initiatives

Dr. Jong-Yoon Chun, founder and CEO of Seegene, emphasized that until now, no system has achieved complete automation of sample pre-treatment for all types, which has limited full automation within the MDx diagnostics realm. CURECA™ is not just about innovation; it represents a step towards making advanced MDx technologies more accessible and integrating them into global healthcare systems.

Seegene aims to pioneer the future of MDx diagnostics, taking further strides toward its vision of a healthier world. The company will also showcase its portfolio of syndromic real-time PCR assays under the theme “Redefining MDx,” discussing critical topics during symposium sessions, including the evolving role of MDx diagnostics in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and meeting changing diagnostic needs in the post-COVID-19 era.

About Seegene

With over 24 years of experience in research, development, and manufacturing, Seegene has become synonymous with innovation in syndromic real-time PCR technologies, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when it supplied over 340 million tests worldwide. Its unique capability allows simultaneous testing for up to 14 pathogens causing similar symptoms in one assay tube, providing timely and informative diagnostic results.
