A graduate of Waseda University Graduate School, Ueda began his career in Japan before relocating to the United States. He joined Google in 2003 as its second Japanese engineer, primarily contributing to Google Maps' development. Later, at Twitter, he became the only engineering director, starting teams that developed features such as account verification and support during emergencies. In 2014, he co-founded MODE, Inc. in Silicon Valley with Ethan Kan, a fellow Yahoo! alumnus.
