SAFII Gains Approval as Training Provider by ASTM International
The Sustainable Aviation Fuels Institute Inc. (SAFII) has reached a significant milestone by becoming a certified training provider for ASTM International. Based in Sugar Grove, Illinois, SAFII is poised to empower professionals in the aviation fuel sector with accredited training programs that emphasize sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
The recently granted approval allows SAFII to develop and offer specialized courses tailored for scientists, engineers, and technicians who are engaged with SAF. This initiative underscores SAFII's commitment to enhancing the quality of education in this emerging field, ensuring that participants not only grasp theoretical knowledge but also gain practical, hands-on experience necessary for effective SAF testing.
Cindy Tomei, the president of SAFII, expressed enthusiasm about this accreditation, stating, "Our courses will adhere strictly to ASTM standards while also providing invaluable practical insights that can be directly applied in the field. The approval reflects our dedication to training excellence and our mission to equip learners with the necessary skills to conduct thorough and accurate SAF evaluations."
In its inaugural offering, SAFII will conduct an ASTM-approved course at its headquarters this Fall. The training will be hands-on, focusing on the Thermal Oxidation Stability of Aviation Fuels (ASTM D3241) as well as testing SAF beyond the breakpoint. Participants will have the opportunity to:
- - Understand Jet Fuel and SAF Properties: Gain insights into the physical properties unique to SAF compared to traditional fuels.
- - Conduct Practical Analyses: Learn the best ways to set up and analyze fuel samples following ASTM methodologies using top-quality testing equipment.
- - Interpret and Analyze Results: Acquire skills in interpreting test outcomes and suggesting effective strategies to maintain fuel quality.
- - Demonstrate Testing Techniques: Engage in real-time sampling practices that showcase key aspects of the D3241 test method.
Leading the training session will be Erin Kerr, a product manager at Falex Corporation, who brings extensive experience in equipment manufacturing and engineering. Her participation in various technical groups, including being a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), ensures that participants will receive top-notch guidance and insights.
The fee for the two-day training session is set at $1,800, inclusive of essential materials, hands-on SAF sampling, meals, and a one-year individual membership with SAFII. Interested individuals can find more information and register for the course on SAFII's website.
