Discover Japan's Handmade Culture at the Upcoming Festival
Japan is renowned for its rich traditions and craftsmanship, and one of the best embodiments of this creativity is the
HandMade In Japan Fes' (HMJ). Scheduled to unfold at
Tokyo Big Sight on
January 17-18, 2026, this annual event will see
3,000 creators showcase their unique talents. Operated by
Creema, Japan's leading handmade marketplace, the HMJ is poised to be a vibrant hub where creativity meets commerce.
An Overview of HandMade In Japan Fes’
The HMJ began at Tokyo Big Sight in 2013 and has successfully grown into one of the country's largest gatherings of artisans. This winter marks its 18th edition, and since 2019, it has been celebrated twice a year—once in summer and once in winter. With original works on display, visitors can browse and purchase unique items ranging from
fashion accessories and
handcrafted bags to
home décor and
artworks. The diverse lineup will feature not just items for sale but also
hands-on workshops, live music, and even food stalls.
Experience Local Artistry
Inside the venue, attendees will see booths filled with the creations from selected artisans across Japan. These creators represent a wealth of diversity, bringing their individual styles and inspirations to the festival. The market will offer an exciting mix of products including:
- - Jewelry and Accessories
- - Fashion Items
- - Kitchenware and Home Decor
- - Artworks and Crafts
In addition to shopping, festival-goers can engage in
interactive workshops led by artisans, allowing participants to explore their creativity firsthand. Whether it’s crafting your own piece or learning traditional techniques, these activities provide a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship behind each item.
The Creema HASHTAG GALLERY Returns
An exciting feature of this year's HMJ is the reintroduction of the
Creema HASHTAG GALLERY. After a successful previous edition focusing on niche themes, this year’s gallery centers around
bag charms, which have become a popular trend in recent times. This display will not only showcase around
100 uniquely crafted bag charms, but it will also include workshops where attendees can create their one-of-a-kind charms.
A Celebration of Creativity
The HMJ not only serves as a marketplace but as a platform to celebrate the creative spirit of Japan. Each creator brings their distinct vision, showcasing the innovation and intricate craftsmanship characteristic of their trade. Visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in artistic expression that transcends simple commerce.
The unique designs of the bag charms illustrate the world of expression and personal style, encouraging attendees to participate in activities that highlight the importance of creativity in everyday life.
