Discover the Charms of Izu, Mishima, and Yokohama on Two Wheels: A Unique Cycling Event

Rediscovering Izu, Mishima, and Yokohama on Two Wheels

Cycling enthusiasts, mark your calendars! Tokyu Hotels and Suruga Bank are excited to announce a collaborative cycling event scheduled for October and November 2026, set across the captivating landscapes of Izu, Mishima, and Yokohama. This initiative not only promotes cycling but also aims to invigorate local tourism, taking place over four sessions and supervised by renowned cyclist Kyosuke Tashiro, who represented Japan in the Athens Olympics.

Event Details

The upcoming cycling events are borne out of a partnership agreement established in March 2023, aimed at promoting cycling tourism in Shizuoka and Kanagawa Prefectures. The events will feature breathtaking routes that include destinations such as the iconic Mt. Fuji and the beautiful Izu area. The routes will initiate from several hotels, including the strategically located Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel, the Shizuoka coast at Shimoda Tokyu Hotel, and for the very first time, the Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu.

The Yokohama course will commence from the Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu, a prime location in the heart of the Minato Mirai area, surrounded by lush parks and offering spectacular views of Yokohama Port. Participants will embark on a group ride covering a distance of 13 km, exploring historic sites like Iseanokami Shrine, Seiden Temple, and Hie Shrine, where they can collect commemorative stamps.

Equipment and Support

Participants need not worry about cycling logistics; bicycles, helmets, and gloves will be provided. Riders are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers suitable for physical activity. The ride will maintain a comfortable pace of 15 to 20 km/h, with project members available to support the participants throughout the journey.

After the ride, participants can enjoy a seasonal lunch at the hotel’s lounge, Somar House. The menu, which changes weekly, helps provide a delightful finishing touch to a day of exploration.

Guidance from the Experts

Kyosuke Tashiro, who leads and supervises all course routes, emphasizes the advantages of cycling as a low-impact exercise that is gentle on the knees and joints. He invites everyone to experience the exhilarating speed and the refreshing feeling that cycling brings.

Real-Time Updates

Participants and fans alike can follow real-time updates about the event on the official social media channels of the Suruga Bank Cycling Project. Sharing highlights from different spots on the course will showcase the stunning cycling environment across Shizuoka and Kanagawa.

Tokyu Hotels is committed to promoting regional revitalization through cycling events and other promotional endeavors, creating a sustainable tourism model that utilizes bicycles.

Upcoming Events

The events cater to adults aged between 18 and 69, and participation is free of charge, although individuals will need to cover their meal costs, accommodation, and other expenses. Weather conditions may affect the event schedule, so potential participants are encouraged to check for the latest event details before registering.
