BlackBerry's QNX Expands Collaboration with AMD to Enhance Embedded Systems

BlackBerry's QNX and AMD Join Forces for Advanced Embedded Systems

In a significant move that showcases the ongoing evolution of embedded technology, BlackBerry Limited's QNX division has announced a strategic collaboration with AMD. This partnership aims to enhance the support for AMD's Ryzen Embedded x86 processors, a development set to revolutionize edge, industrial, automotive, and graphics applications due to their high performance and energy efficiency. This announcement was made during an event in Nuremberg, Germany, on March 10, 2026.

Expanding the Integrated Real-Time Systems

The integration of AMD's embedded processors with QNX's Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0 offers developers a new x86-based option for integrated real-time embedded systems. Historically, QNX and AMD’s collaboration has been rooted in AMD’s adaptive computing portfolio, including the Zynq™ UltraScale+, Versal™ Adaptive SoCs, and Kria™ System-on-Module (SOM). This latest extension signifies a broader capability for developers to harness the power of high-performance computing in their applications.

The demand for computing power, efficiency, and real-time reliability in the embedded market continues to surge. The AMD Ryzen Embedded processors are designed to strike an exceptional balance between performance and energy efficiency, making them ideal for next-generation systems that require both real-time control and advanced graphics in a single chip. This makes them particularly appealing for developers working on sophisticated systems like in-vehicle digital cockpits, industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), machine controllers, robotic systems, and advanced medical imaging devices.

AMD Ryzen V2000: A New Era for QNX SDP

The AMD Ryzen™ Embedded V2000 is the first processor supported by the QNX SDP 8.0, with plans to include support for the P100 processor in the near future. Alongside this announcement, QNX has simultaneously launched Board Support Packages (BSPs) for the Sapphire Edge IPC-FP6 platform to facilitate the development of next-generation applications.

Grant Courville, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at QNX, emphasized the expanded support for AMD Ryzen Embedded processors, stating that this collaboration enhances their ability to provide customers with architectures that deliver predictable, deterministic performance without compromising reliability. QNX has established its reputation as a trusted software foundation for developers over the years. The compatibility of SDP 8.0 with the Ryzen Embedded x86 architecture broadens the choices available for building automotive, industrial, and medical next-generation systems while ensuring rigorous reliability and real-time responsiveness.

Future Collaborations and Opportunities

Simon George, Director of Embedded Systems at AMD's Physical AI division, shared insights on the collaboration, highlighting that the compatibility of QNX SDP 8.0 with the Ryzen Embedded V2000 processor allows developers to enjoy the benefits of high computation performance and integrated graphics while leveraging QNX's proven real-time operating environment. He noted that both companies are committed to furthering their collaborative efforts to include the recently announced AMD Ryzen AI Embedded P100 series processors, which aim to provide precise resource allocation and deterministic performance for mission-critical and safety-critical AI workloads.
