Huawei Unveils Next-Gen Optical Solutions at MWC 2026 to Boost Smart Transformation Across Industries
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, held from March 2 to 5 in Barcelona, Huawei showcased its latest advancements in optical technologies designed to accelerate the intelligent transformation across multiple industries. Under the theme "Convergence of Optics and Intelligence, Driving AI Across All Industries", the company engaged with clients, partners, and tech leaders to discuss how their innovative solutions can reshape enterprise ecosystems. As we transition into this intelligent era, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies are profoundly altering industries and ecosystems. To address the need for advanced solutions in business scenarios, Huawei presented high-tech products including iFTTO, optical communication networks for industrial applications, next-generation FAN, and fiber sensor technology.
One key highlight was the iFTTO solution aimed at transforming campus networks from simple connectivity to multidimensional information convergence, incorporating the Internet of Things (IoT). This approach goes beyond traditional networking roles, laying the groundwork for intelligent campuses that integrate sensor technology, data processing, and control systems, thereby facilitating the smart transformation of various locations. To date, the iFTTO solution has been deployed in over 15,000 campus environments, enhancing productivity and efficiency in schools, hospitals, hotels, factories, and office buildings.
In the realm of industrial communication networks, Huawei introduced its Optical Transport Network (OTN) solution based on next-gen intelligent OTN platforms, meeting the digital and smart transformation needs across sectors such as energy supply, railways, public administration, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). AI-powered features in this solution are designed to support seamless evolution from legacy systems like Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) to the latest fgOTN, ensuring an impressive reliability rate of 99.999%. Furthermore, the computing experience has been optimized to meet the growing demands for computational power, complemented by the enhanced efficiency of fault localization via the smart operation and maintenance platform, NOEMate.
In the ISP segment, Huawei presented its industry-leading end-to-end (E2E) optical transmission solutions for both undersea and land cables, which support the rapid growth of data center traffic. For home environments, the next-generation FAN solution was introduced, evolving home networks from mere connectivity to a superior usage experience. Powered by new Wi-Fi mesh and Fiber to the Room (FTTR) technologies—coupled with AI-assisted interference mitigation—this solution enhances signal penetration through walls, resulting in a 20% increase in data rates under adverse conditions and ensuring seamless coverage throughout homes. This robust solution enables bandwidth-intensive services such as cloud gaming and 8K UHD streaming, thus providing an exceptional user experience.
Moreover, Huawei demonstrated its innovative optical sensing technologies, such as fiber sensors for predictive maintenance of conveyor rollers and perimeter inspections, laying a strong foundation for scalable AI applications. These technologies are already being utilized across various industries, including transportation, oil and gas, mining, logistics, manufacturing, and energy supply, enabling intelligent inspections and significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
In addition to these core offerings, Huawei also presented scenario-specific solutions in exhibition areas for various sectors including energy supply, ISP, education, healthcare, transport, and public administration, connecting optical technologies with sector-specific applications. Huawei's commitment is to drive the innovation in optical networks collaboratively with industry partners, accelerating the adoption of AI in homes and industries worldwide.
