Global Landmarks Shine Bright for Stage 4 Breast Cancer Awareness in #LightUpMBC Event

Light Up the Night for Stage 4 Breast Cancer Research

On October 13, a remarkable event titled #LightUpMBC is set to illuminate over 270 landmarks around the world to raise awareness for Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer (MBC). This campaign aims to shine a light not just on the issue of MBC, which claims the lives of 117 individuals daily in the U.S. alone, but also on the urgent need for more funding for research into this often-overlooked form of cancer.

The Problem We Face

Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer refers to cases where the cancer has spread beyond the breast, and unfortunately, the funding for research aimed at addressing this critical health issue remains severely lacking. In 2025, METAvivor Research and Support Inc., the organization behind this campaign, received nearly double the number of research proposals compared to the previous year, signifying a desperate need for financial support from private donors. METAvivor plays a crucial role in funding research that seeks to improve the survival rate and quality of life for those diagnosed with MBC.

A Global Movement for Awareness

From iconic structures like One World Trade Center in New York City to the Sydney Opera House in Australia, landmarks across all 50 U.S. states and 20 countries will participate in this illuminating event. These sites will be awash in teal, green, and pink—the colors representing MBC awareness. Each illuminated landmark serves as a tribute to those who have lost their lives to this disease and symbolizes hope for current patients battling with MBC.

Personal Stories Inspire Action

Laura Inahara, the founder of the #LightUpMBC initiative, poignantly summarizes the campaign's purpose. Inspired by her best friend Jessica Moore, who tragically passed away from MBC at the age of 36, Laura expresses, "Every landmark that lights up is a tribute to those we've lost and a beacon of hope for those living with MBC—that a cure can be found in their lifetime."

Tune in for #LightUpMBC LIVE

The campaign will culminate in a global livestream event, #LightUpMBC LIVE, hosted by Tami Eagle Bowling and actress Gina Naomi Baez. This event, scheduled for the same evening as the landmark lightings, will feature inspiring stories from MBC patients, music from Broadway performers, and discussions on the latest research in the field. Notable artists such as Bootsy Collins and Pop Star Em Beihold will also lend their voices to the event, ensuring a vibrant and emotional evening.

The #LightUpMBC LIVE event will be streamed on platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, with 100% of net proceeds directly benefiting METAvivor to fund much-needed research into metastatic breast cancer.

Conclusion

As the world gears up to light up these significant landmarks, it reflects our collective commitment to combating Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. With organizations like METAvivor leading the charge, hope is renewed for many affected by this disease. Join the movement, spread the word, and support #LightUpMBC to ensure that those affected by MBC receive the funding and attention they desperately need for research.
