Habitat for Humanity Launches Campaign
Habitat for Humanity, renowned for its commitment to affordable housing solutions, officially launched a global initiative dubbed "Let's Open the Door". This campaign aims to spotlight the pressing global housing crisis affecting millions of families worldwide. In 2026, the organization proudly celebrates 50 years of impactful service, ensuring that everyone has access to a safe and affordable home.
Every day, one in three individuals globally wakes up without the shelter and security that a home provides. It's a stark reminder that despite advancements, the issue of adequate housing continues to pose a significant challenge. Based in Atlanta, Habitat for Humanity kicks off its campaign at Garibaldi Plaza in New York City, where the first in a series of unique door pop-up installations symbolizes the organization's mission—inviting the public to engage in conversations surrounding housing issues and the importance of having a home.
The housing crisis is an urgent global challenge, and this campaign is a clarion call to people around the world to participate actively in seeking solutions. As stated by Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, “For 50 years, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that housing is at the center of our efforts. Housing is foundational not just for families but also for thriving communities. It’s imperative that we increase access to affordable and sustainable homes.” He emphasized the need for collective effort, urging individuals to use their time, skills, or resources to contribute to this critical cause.
In conjunction with leading corporate partners like State Farm, Whirlpool, Lowe's, and Wells Fargo, Habitat’s campaign will comprise temporary exhibitions, home builds, and digital storytelling across over 60 countries. These initiatives aim to highlight the urgency surrounding housing accessibility and to galvanize communities into actions that will foster better living conditions.
As part of its campaign, Habitat will introduce the annual "Home is the Key" initiative, aimed at raising funds and awareness about housing injustices in the US. This month-long initiative will launch in April and will advocate for innovative housing solutions across multiple states. The campaign kick-off will feature various local Habitat affiliates—including Greater Indy, Greater Orlando-Osceola, New York City, Seattle-King, and Washington D.C. Northern Virginia—hosting events such as expert panel discussions and house dedication ceremonies, all designed to showcase the power of collective action.
Prominent figures like Drew and Jonathan Scott, ardent supporters of Habitat for Humanity, expressed their commitment to this mission, noting that building homes alone isn't enough to tackle the global housing crisis. “We have witnessed firsthand the profound impact a home can have on a family’s life, and we’re dedicated to advocating for increased awareness about this critical need,” they stated.
This spring, Habitat for Humanity will embark on a unique experiential tour covering ten major cities worldwide, where they will celebrate their legacy while addressing housing challenges. The pop-up doors will serve as a symbolic representation of the opportunities that await when communities come together. Through these initiatives, the organization hopes to foster dialogues that will lead to meaningful change in housing policies.
Since its inception in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has assisted over 65 million individuals in building, repairing, or financing safe and modest housing. As the organization moves into another 50 years, its focus remains steadfast on creating a world where everyone has a safe and adequate place to call home. It is a vision that begins with the simple act of opening a door. To get involved in the "Let's Open the Door" campaign, visit
