At the recently concluded Mobile AI Summit hosted by Huawei during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2025, industry experts, scholars, and telecom operators gathered to discuss advancements in mobile artificial intelligence (AI) and its monetization strategies. Among the key outcomes were two significant agreements aimed at enhancing mobile AI through improved 5G-A uplink experiences, emphasizing the crucial synergy between networks and services.

One of the standout moments of the summit was the unveiling of the GSMA Foundry project titled "Mobile Network for Thriving AI," marking a significant step toward monetizing AI experiences and developing a customer-centric mobile AI network. Wen Ku, President of the China Communications Standards Association (CCSA), highlighted the integration of 5G-A and AI as a primary direction for the advancement of communication networks. He stressed the need for focused efforts on standard-setting, intelligent network integration, and fostering mutual development through ecosystems to drive the future of mobile AI.

The summit featured insights from industry pioneers such as Rokid, MiniMax, and Unitree Robotics, who shared strategies for leveraging competitive advantages in the rapidly evolving market. They emphasized that AI agents are broadening user experiences beyond traditional touchscreen interactions, facilitating multimodal interactions involving voice, video, and spatial data processing. These advancements enable AI to achieve superior audiovisual bit rates and model accuracy, harnessing the potential of 5G-A networks to reduce latency in interactions, which is essential for delivering novel services, including real-time interactions and high-quality AI video calls requiring uplink speeds of at least 20 Mbps.

Participants, including Zhi-Quan Luo from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, shared experiences regarding AI's role in network optimization and strategies for integrating AI technologies comprehensively. The transformation brought about by AI in mobile networks is reshaping the telecommunications landscape, assisting operators in the digital transformation of their networks, operations, and business processes. This transformation is aimed at offering differentiated services across various sectors, facilitating a shift from traffic monetization to business monetization.

Key factors determining the performance of networks for mobile AI, such as uplink, latency, and stability, emerged as consensus points among attendees. Huawei positioned its GigaBand solution as a pioneering force in transitioning network monetization from mobile broadband (MBB) to mobile AI. Part of Huawei's extensive 5G-A technology, GigaBand, integrates Air Interface Resource (AIR) pooling and Optimization Solver (Optsolver) for efficient AIR orchestration. This innovation allows for the smooth evolution of 5G-A networks to accommodate new AI services.

For instance, GigaBand's deployment in Hong Kong successfully enabled the flexible sharing of 4G/5G frequency bands for diverse services, resulting in a significant increase in 5G throughput rates, while ensuring a stable 4G user experience. This advancement offers substantial benefits to operators striving to construct efficient, intelligent, and low-carbon 5G networks.

As mobile AI continues to evolve alongside GigaBand and other leading-edge technologies, it serves as a new catalyst for revenue growth within the telecommunications sector, promising users a new digital lifestyle enriched by pervasive intelligent services.
