Shibuya and Honolulu: A Thriving Cultural Partnership
In an exciting new initiative, the Shibuya City Tourism Association, along with the city of Shibuya and Honolulu, has launched the 'Shibuhono' portal site. This initiative marks a significant milestone as Shibuya and Honolulu solidify their sister city relationship, which was established in 2024. This partnership is built on the principles of 'Malama Hawaii' (the spirit of caring), aiming to enhance educational exchanges for the next generation, as well as foster collaboration in tourism, sports, art, and fashion.
The creation of the 'Shibuhono' website (https://play-shibuya.com/shibuhono/) serves as a centralized hub for disseminating information about Hawaii-related events in Shibuya, allowing the public to engage more actively in the cultural connections between the two cities.
A Shared Vision for Effective Collaboration
This project aims to embody a practical format of 'co-creation,' reinforcing economic ties through the unification of creative cultures that are continuously evolving in both locations. By promoting collaborative ventures in advanced tourism and wellness, as well as engaging startups and private sectors, the initiative seeks to boost the economic interconnections between Shibuya and Honolulu.
Additionally, both cities' commitment to natural preservation and cultural heritage in music, fashion, and art serves as a foundation for deepening mutual respect and resonance. Various programs have been planned to highlight this shared ethos, fostering a rich exchange of experiences and perspectives.
The 'Shibuhono' site will archive and visualize these diverse activities, offering citizens and businesses a space to connect more closely with this vibrant cultural exchange. The site aims to showcase tangible examples of collaboration, including student visits and initiatives aimed at fostering a sustainable society through the lenses of both 'Malama' and 'Sustainable Shibuya'. It will also provide extensive information about upcoming Hawaii-related events planned within Shibuya, emphasizing a broader community involvement.

A Visionary Approach to Cultural Tourism
By establishing the 'Shibuhono' initiative under the concept of 'PLAY! DIVERSITY SHIBUYA', the Shibuya City Tourism Association aims to realize the vision of Shibuya as an 'International Cultural Tourism City'. This commitment to collaboration between public and private sectors not only focuses on boosting tourism but also emphasizes community enhancement and a rich urban environment for its citizens. The association encourages local engagement by nominating 'Shibuya Tourism Ambassadors & Fellows' who can collaborate in promoting the Shibuya brand.
In this spirit of interaction and innovation, the Shibuya City Tourism Association continues to develop diverse collaborations, fostering a unique and dynamic relationship between Shibuya and Honolulu, contributing to their identities and adapting to the needs of the modern era.
