JR East Group to Open New Hotel in Kyoto

The JR East Group has officially announced the forthcoming launch of Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station, slated for November 16, 2026. As the latest addition to the company's hospitality endeavor in collaboration with Marriott International, this hotel aims to redefine the experience for travelers by serving as a new hub for visitors in the ancient city.

A New Kind of Hub in Kyoto

This hotel departs from previous JR East developments by utilizing newly acquired properties rather than merely transforming existing train station buildings. With an aim to enhance the value of surrounding urban areas, Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station will truly embody a vibrant gateway to Kyoto. Leveraging the strategic positioning of Kyoto Station, which acts as a key transportation hub, the hotel will facilitate not only convenient travel but also rich cultural interactions for guests.

Reservations for the hotel will open on August 6, 2026, at 14:00, available directly through the official hotel website.

Location and Design Features

Situated just a three-minute walk from the Hachijo East Exit of Kyoto Station, the hotel boasts an unbeatable location. The design features ten different room types, catering to various guest needs. Notably, the guest room windows incorporate recycled aluminum from the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, and the lobby is adorned with local Miyako timber, showcasing a commitment to using regional resources and promoting environmental sustainability.

Dining Experience at “The 8th Gate”

The hotel will feature an all-day dining venue called The 8th Gate, reflecting its name's symbolic value of 888, which is considered a number of good fortune. This restaurant, managed by JR East Hotels, will offer a breakfast buffet supervised by Yukako Hayashi, a professor at Kyoto University and technical advisor for JR East Hotels. The menu will highlight local ingredients to create a unique culinary experience.

The dining area will operate as a café during the day, serving light snacks and coffee, and transform into a bar in the evening, featuring live piano performances alongside a selection of local sakes.

Community Engagement Initiatives

Recognizing its role in the community, Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station will regularly host events and art exhibitions in collaboration with local enterprises and organizations. This initiative is aligned with the nearby Kyoto Station East Complex Project, which aims to enhance the vibrant atmosphere of the area by facilitating MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events and other community activities.
