Memorial Hermann Health System Welcomes Max Reynolds
On November 25, 2024, Memorial Hermann Health System announced the appointment of Max Reynolds as their new Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, set to take effect on December 9, 2024. This strategic move aims to bolster the organization’s legal prowess and help realize its mission to enhance community health now and in the future.
Reynolds is recognized for his adeptness in leading large-scale negotiations, managing litigation, and working alongside operational leaders to deliver strategic legal insights. With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare law, both as in-house counsel and external advisor, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
David L. Callender, MD, FACS, President and CEO of Memorial Hermann, expressed enthusiasm about Reynolds joining the executive team. Before joining Memorial Hermann, Reynolds served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at John Muir Health in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, he was responsible for overseeing the system's legal, compliance, internal audit, and information security functions. His responsibilities were significant; he managed litigation and investigations and provided counsel in various areas like corporate governance, acquisitions, joint ventures, and risk management.

With a notable career that includes past roles such as Chief Strategy Officer for UC San Diego Health and Deputy General Counsel for Health Affairs and Health System Counsel for University of California Health, Reynolds has a comprehensive background in healthcare law. His previous work involved oversight of legal services at major academic medical centers within the University of California system.
Before his contributions to higher education healthcare, Reynolds was a partner in the Health Law Department at McDermott, Will & Emery LLP in Washington, D.C., and initially worked as an associate at Shaw Pittman. He earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University and powered through to complete his J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law.
