Workshop Objectives


The workshop aims to develop an inclusive approach in the realm of theatre, specifically geared towards accommodating participants from diverse backgrounds. It will incorporate various activities reflective of Ghazi's real-world experiences within Germany, where he has effectively engaged with immigrant communities through theatre. Over the course of six days, attendees will learn how to design and implement workshops catering to multicultural and multilingual groups.

Schedule Overview


The workshop is divided into several sessions as follows:
  • - Orientation: September 10, Wednesday, from 19:00 to 20:30
  • - Workshop Development (6 Days):
1. Introduction: September 16, Tuesday, 10:00 to 18:00
2. WS Development (1): September 17, Wednesday, 10:00 to 18:00
3. WS Development (2): September 18, Thursday, 10:00 to 18:00
4. Trial WS Rehearsal: September 20, Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00
5. Trial WS Implementation: September 21, Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00
6. Wrap-Up: September 22, Monday, 10:00 to 18:00

Each day will include a lunch break, and there will be no sessions on September 19 (Friday). Participants are expected to submit a brief report (one A4 page) following the practical workshop session. Please note that the instructor will not attend the orientation session.

Who Can Participate?


This program is open to individuals aged 18 and older who have a vested interest in collaboratively creating workshops that welcome diversity. There are specific requirements for attendees:
1. Those with experience in theatre as directors, actors, or producers who have worked on multiple public performances and wish to continue in this capacity in the future.
2. Individuals with experience as facilitators, planners, producers, or coordinators of theatre workshops, who also aspire to continue their work in this area.
Participants must be available for the full duration of the program, as preference will be given to those who can attend all sessions.

About Bassam Ghazi


Bassam Ghazi is not only an accomplished theatre educator but also a diversity trainer, having gained his education in Heidelberg, Berlin, and Cologne. From 2015 to 2021, he served as the artistic director of the Import Export Kollektiv, a civic participation theatre group focused on second and third-generation immigrants at the Cologne City Theatre. He currently leads the participatory civic theatre Stadt:Kollektiv at the Düsseldorf City Theatre.

His accolades include the DER FAUST award for directing a bus tour performance addressing actual immigration exclusion events, highlighting his commitment to addressing sensitive social issues through art.
