M&T Bank Appoints Neeraj Singh as New Chief Risk Officer
M&T Bank Corporation has officially announced the appointment of Neeraj Singh as its new Chief Risk Officer (CRO), effective January 31, 2025. This leadership change comes as Mike Todaro, the current CRO, prepares for retirement after nearly thirty years at the bank, a move that was communicated in recent announcements.
Neeraj Singh transitions to M&T Bank from USAA, where he had the responsibility of overseeing all financial and non-financial risks as its CRO. Singh brings with him a robust background, boasting over 20 years of experience in risk management within the financial services sector. His expertise and proven success in handling complex risk environments are expected to be invaluable as GT Bank emphasizes its commitment to risk governance.
"We are thrilled to welcome Neeraj Singh to our executive team," stated René Jones, CEO and Chairman of M&T Bank. He expressed confidence in Singh's capability to advance the bank’s risk management strategies, which are crucial for serving the bank’s expanding customer base and community. Singh's task will involve not only maintaining existing risk management protocols but also innovating and adapting strategies to align with the bank’s growth plans.
Before his tenure at USAA, Singh held significant risk management roles at prominent entities including Citigroup, TD Bank, and Barclays, making him well-prepared for the challenges of his new role. Notably, he received his undergraduate degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
As Singh steps into his new position, he will report directly to the CEO, René Jones, as well as Bob Sadler, Chairman of the Board of Directors Risk Committee. Additionally, he will be relocating from San Antonio, Texas to Buffalo, New York, where M&T Bank is headquartered.
In addressing his appointment, Singh expressed admiration for M&T Bank’s mission and its strong commitment to the communities it serves. "I am honored to join the bank and look forward to collaborating with a talented team to enhance the bank's risk management capabilities," Singh remarked. His vision is to foster a resilient and forward-looking risk culture aligned with the bank’s core values and mission.
Prior to Mike Todaro's departure, he played a pivotal role in shaping M&T Bank’s risk management framework since taking on the CRO role in 2021. Todaro is recognized for significantly enhancing the bank’s risk management capabilities and talent development in the division. His legacy also includes leading the mortgage and consumer lending sectors within the organization.
M&T Bank, headquartered in Buffalo, New York, operates across the eastern U.S. from Maine to Virginia and Washington, D.C., providing an array of banking products and services. Trust-related services are delivered through its Wilmington Trust affiliated companies and by M&T Bank in selected markets domestically and internationally.
