Experience the Vibrant World of I-Lander 2025 in Tokyo
The highly anticipated event,
I-Lander 2025, will take place on
November 22nd and 23rd at the Sunshine City Cultural Center in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Organized by the Japan Islands Center and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, this festival connects islands with urban areas and celebrates the unique culture of Japan's many islands. Now in its
33rd year, I-Lander has become a beloved event, allowing guests to experience the charm of Japan's islands without leaving Tokyo.
This year, approximately
80 island groups from
Hokkaido to Okinawa will exhibit, showcasing the wonders of over
170 islands. New participants include
Inushima from Okayama and
Shimanoura Island from Miyazaki, among others. At each booth, attendees can engage directly with islanders, learning about their way of life, travel information, and locally-produced crafts and gourmet products.
Unique Local Products and Special Experiences
I-Lander offers a special treat for food lovers! With over
70 organizations participating in the product sales, rare and unique local delicacies will be available for purchase. Last year's special feature, the
Island Gourmet Corner, returns with delicious dishes prepared using island-specific ingredients. This year, they'll offer a
luxurious seafood donburi, combining fish from multiple islands, available in limited quantities.
Attendees can also participate in hands-on workshops and various experiences designed for all ages. Notably, the
Amami Museum will present information on the natural heritage of
Amami Oshima, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Cultural Performances and Online Broadcast
The event will feature exciting stage performances showcasing
traditional arts, such as folk songs and drumming from the islands. An interactive stage connecting participants from the islands with the venue will also be available, ensuring everyone can engage with and enjoy the experience, regardless of their physical location. Attendance in person is not necessary, as performances will be streamed live on the official website!
Interactive Activities and Opportunities
In addition to tastings and shopping, a
stamp rally within the venue invites guests to collect unique stamps representing island landmarks and products. Collecting all
six original stamp designs earns participants a special prize, but be aware that supplies are limited!
Visitors with questions about moving to or visiting the islands can consult directly with the exhibiting islanders. The
Hello Work booth will also provide employment information regarding job opportunities on these islands.
