International Collaboration Between Cetim and MIRDC to Accelerate Industrial Decarbonization

Partnership Overview



Cetim, the renowned technical center for the mechanical industry in France, has recently entered a significant international collaboration with Taiwan's Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC). This partnership was officially established during the JEC World 2025 exhibition held on March 20, 2025. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two organizations aims to tackle pressing technological challenges in the fields of hydrogen and advanced composite materials, while also addressing the critical need for training in these domains.

Objectives of the Cooperation



The core aim of this collaboration is to galvanize innovation and assist manufacturers in their journey towards decarbonization. The partnership focuses on three pivotal areas:

1. Advancing the Hydrogen Industry:
Cetim and MIRDC will work together to enhance the entire hydrogen value chain encompassing production, storage, transport, and application. This includes developing more robust, reliable, and cost-effective technologies for material testing in high-pressure hydrogen environments.

2. Utilizing Composite Materials for Decarbonization:
The two organizations will collaborate on creating lightweight and environmentally-friendly solutions for composite structural components used in the hydrogen sector. Particular attention will be given to composite assembly technologies, notably thermoplastic welding, which is vital for transitioning to lighter, more sustainable materials.

3. Skill Development in Decarbonization Technologies:
Another critical aspect of this partnership is knowledge transfer. Training programs will be instituted to cover various aspects of the hydrogen value chain, advanced materials characterization, and the broad applications of composite materials. This initiative is aimed at empowering manufacturers and ensuring they are well-equipped to embrace and implement decarbonization technologies.

Strategic Alignment and Future Directions



This agreement is consistent with Cetim's strategic priorities, notably its commitment to ecological and energy transitions, focusing particularly on hydrogen technologies and advanced materials. Lai Yung-Hsiang, the CEO of MIRDC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting that both organizations share compatible backgrounds and complementary technical expertise.

He emphasized that through this collaboration, they can significantly contribute to the advancement of hydrogen energy technology and bolster Taiwan’s hydrogen energy ecosystem. Furthermore, this partnership is expected to expand to include additional sectors such as metal materials, aerospace, precision machining, and other emerging energy divisions, further strengthening the ties between the Taiwanese and French industries.
