Innovative Pet Oxygen Chamber Delivery Service in Greater Tokyo Area
In response to the growing need for in-home care for aging pets affected by heart diseases and respiratory issues, a new initiative has begun in the Greater Tokyo area, including Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama.
Local company
Wan Danya and the
Ikigai Plaza organization have joined forces to conduct a trial delivery service of pet oxygen chambers to support households caring for their sick pets at home.
Addressing the Challenges of At-Home Pet Care
The average lifespan of dogs and cats has increased over the years, leading to a rise in chronic conditions such as heart disease, chronic respiratory failure, and tracheal collapse. According to a pet ownership report, many older pets require quiet and safe environments at home, which has made the establishment of effective at-home healthcare systems more critical than ever.
However, challenges remain for pet owners, such as:
- - Difficulty in receiving and setting up oxygen chambers
- - Reduced trips to veterinary clinics due to transportation burdens
- - Lack of reliable transport options during emergencies
A New Community-Centric Model
To address these challenges, the current initiative aims to provide centralized support through the delivery of oxygen chambers and assistance with veterinary visits. By combining the expertise of
Wan Danya, which specializes in pet taxi services, with
Ikigai Plaza, which rents out oxygen chambers, a seamless process has been developed to facilitate both equipment delivery and support for transportation.
This model ensures that:
- - Necessary equipment reliably reaches homes
- - Pets requiring oxygen therapy can travel comfortably, minimizing stress during veterinary visits
The initiative also aims to strengthen collaborations with veterinary clinics, paving the way for innovative partnerships in animal healthcare and welfare. It ultimately seeks to offer peace of mind to pet owners who are often anxious about their pets' well-being.
Trial Service Overview
The trial encompasses three main services designed to evaluate their effectiveness and safety:
1.
Delivery of Pet Oxygen Chambers
Comprehensive support is provided for the delivery, setup, and collection of oxygen chambers. Guidance for operation will be offered through phone or video calls from
Ikigai Plaza.
During the testing phase, the installation will predominantly involve the customer, while Wan Danya will handle transportation and setup assistance.
2.
Transportation of Equipment Only
This service caters to replacement of faulty oxygen chambers, inter-home transfers, and reinstallation needs.
3.
Support for Transporting Pets Needing Oxygen
This service facilitates travel for pets requiring special care, including visits to veterinary clinics. Oxygen chambers will be included during transport to minimize stress.
It is essential that pet owners sign a rental contract for the oxygen chamber with Ikigai Plaza before requesting transport support.
Commitment to Change
Wan Danya CEO, Masaki Okino
"We have seen countless families struggling with transporting their pets, especially those who are unwell. We don’t want pets to endure long journeys in distress. This collaboration directly addresses significant challenges in the field. Our goal is to minimize the time animals are suffering. By leveraging our strengths in transportation, we want to create a support system involving pet owners, veterinary clinics, and welfare organizations. Creating safe environments for pets should be a community effort, and this initiative is just the first step towards developing a new model connecting veterinary medicine and transport support right here in Fujisawa."
Ikigai Plaza Director, Takayuki Inamura
"Many pet owners are unaware of oxygen chambers until their pets are diagnosed with serious conditions. They often panic when needing to rent one. We have teamed up with
Wan Danya to raise awareness about pet oxygen chambers, making the process more accessible and alleviating owner concerns."
Expected Impact
The initiative aims to enhance the quality of at-home care for pets, facilitate easier veterinary visits despite health challenges, and develop a community-based model for veterinary collaboration. This comprehensive approach is set to reduce stress for both pet owners and animals significantly, showcasing a pioneering delivery model that combines oxygen chamber distribution with transportation support.
Future Developments
Throughout the trial, various aspects will be evaluated, aiming for a comprehensive service:
- - Demand trends in the Greater Tokyo area
- - Monitoring and management of oxygen levels and temperature during transport
- - Development of driver education and safety standards
- - Expansion of partnerships with veterinary clinics and welfare organizations
Moving forward, we plan to widen our collaborations with veterinary clinics and welfare facilities to address diverse challenges and needs surrounding pet care support, including nighttime emergency transportation services.
