Innovations in Elderly Care
In the ever-evolving landscape of elderly care, Sekisui Chemical Co., in partnership with Rehabilitation3.0, unveiled two pivotal innovations: the monitoring sensor
ANSIEL™ and the data utilization application
Reha3.0. These groundbreaking technologies were prominently featured at the prestigious International Welfare Equipment Exhibition (H.C.R), held from October 8 to 10, 2025, at Tokyo Big Sight.
Context of Collaboration
With Japan's aging population projected to reach an alarming 29.3% by 2024 and potentially 2.6 out of every 5 citizens being over 65 by 2070, addressing the challenges of caregiving has never been more urgent. As a response to this pressing need, Sekisui Chemical and Rehabilitation3.0 have joined forces to pave the way for predictive elder care solutions. Starting from April this year, they initiated services using ANSIEL to predict and visualize fall risks and declines in daily living activities through the
Reha3.0 application.
The synergy between ANSIEL's high-speed and precise response mechanisms and Reha3.0's AI technology—boasting a remarkable 93% accuracy in assessing movement and cognitive capabilities from sleep data—aims to enhance care quality while relieving the burden on caregivers.
Product Overview
ANSIEL™
The ANSIEL sensor utilizes high-precision technology strategically placed beneath the mattress of individuals requiring care. This device detects and analyzes movements, sending alerts directly to the smartphones or computers of caregivers. Its unparalleled ability to sense minute changes in pressure enables non-contact monitoring of vital statistics like heart rate, breathing, and sleep patterns.
Reha3.0
The Reha3.0 application leverages AI to analyze vital data collected during sleep, effectively identifying individuals at high risk for falls. Featuring a tiered alert system, it significantly reduces unnecessary notifications by exclusively alerting caregivers to individuals classified as high-risk, thereby streamlining monitoring efforts by as much as 80%.
Validity of Results
In a comprehensive study conducted in a special nursing home in Tokyo, data collected over 163 days encompassing 4,229 instances revealed that 22.3% of residents could be accurately determined as either in a “danger” or “caution” category. Notably, of the 12 fall incidents that occurred during this period, 83.3% were flagged in advance as “danger” or “caution”—underscoring the reliability of the AI-based risk assessments.
Furthermore, incidents classified as merely “consideration” demonstrated low predictability, reaffirming the system's utility in maintaining accountability to families and ensuring transparent communication about care. Thus, it has proven to be a practical system designed to not only estimate fall risks but also streamline the monitoring duties of staff while facilitating information sharing among family members and external institutions.
Reception at the Exhibition
During the exhibition, the response from attendees, including those from caregiving facilities and research institutions, was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed surprise at the innovative capability of AI to predict fall risks based on data from ANSIEL, with comments such as, “This is an unprecedented mechanism!” and “I can't wait to implement it in practical settings!” Additionally, the application’s potential for utilizing sleep data in rehabilitation and risk assessment garnered interest, with visitors noting, “I see new possibilities in sleep data applications” and “It could have broad applications in research and care management.”
Future Developments
Looking ahead, Sekisui Chemical is committed to improving operational efficiency for caregivers and enhancing the quality of life (QOL) for those receiving care by promoting the widespread adoption of ANSIEL across nursing facilities nationwide. Progress in the acceptance of Reha3.0 is underway, with plans for intensified collaboration to broaden its implementation. Through technological innovation and partnerships, Sekisui Chemical aims to contribute to creating a future defined by safety and reliability in elder care.
