Huawei Unveils iFTTO Solution for Accelerating Smart Campus Development

Huawei's iFTTO Solution for Smart Campuses

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Huawei introduced its iFTTO (Intelligent Fiber To The Office) solution, set to revolutionize the smart campus landscape through advanced AI capabilities. This innovative solution integrates optical networks with artificial intelligence to lay a robust foundation for fast-paced AI application development across campus environments.

Perry Yang, President of Huawei's Enterprise Optical Domain, stated that as AI applications proliferate on campuses, traditional physical spaces are evolving into digital smart ecosystems. This transformation demands higher network bandwidth and lower latency while introducing new operational challenges within smart campuses. In response to these needs, Huawei has upgraded its FTTO solution to iFTTO, moving campus networks beyond conventional connectivity towards multidimensional information convergence and IoT functionalities.

The iFTTO solution embodies the O-N.E.X.T concept, which integrates optical and intelligent technologies to redefine campus network value and foster a new smart campus ecosystem. The N.E.X.T structure consists of four innovative aspects:

  • - N (Network Unified by Optical): Optical networks connect directly to terminals, transforming network architecture from a two-layer to a one-layer system.
  • - E (Ecosystem of Open IoT): This is enabled by the industry's first optical Wi-Fi 7 access point with built-in NearLink and Bluetooth modules, facilitating the concurrent deployment of networks and IoT systems.
  • - X (X-Dimensional Information Fusion): Supports multidimensional data sources, including vision, Wi-Fi channels, radio frequencies, and 3D LiDAR, allowing diverse AI applications through multimodal concurrent processing.
  • - T (Towards Autonomous Operation): Highlights the use of the industry's first intelligent agent for maintenance and operation within fully optical campus networks, promoting interactive and proactive management, a closed-loop system, and enhanced operational efficiency.
  • - O (Open 3-Layer Computing Power): Supports AI application deployments across various industries, such as smart healthcare and energy-efficient hospitality, through a synergy of cloud, edge, and device computing.

The iFTTO solution is tailored to deliver diverse and unique value in sectors including education, healthcare, and hospitality. In education, the solution utilizes passive, fully optical aggregation and tri-band Wi-Fi 7 optical access points to provide ultra-10G connectivity in every space, cultivating ultra-broadband campus networks. Moreover, it facilitates synchronized control of lighting and climate systems in classrooms, contributing to reduced energy consumption. Within dormitories, AI algorithms prioritize critical services to enhance user comfort.

In healthcare, the 50G PON technology accelerates AI-supported pathological analyses, connecting optical terminals with IoT devices in wards to enable intelligent nursing care while safeguarding patient privacy. In the hospitality sector, innovative 2D-to-3D video conversion technology offers guests immersive entertainment experiences.

Thus far, Huawei's FTTO solution has been implemented in over 15,000 campuses worldwide, highlighting the extensive reach and effectiveness of its advanced technologies in creating smarter educational and operational environments.
