Collaboration Between Musashino University and Yukaria to Promote Healthcare Data Science Education

Collaboration for Enhanced Data Science Education

In July 2026, Yukaria Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, entered into a collaborative agreement with the Data Science Faculty of Musashino University, located in Koto, Tokyo. This partnership is set to leverage healthcare data from electronic medical records for educational and research purposes.

The collaboration aims to establish a foundation where real-world healthcare data can be utilized to facilitate hands-on learning and research opportunities, ultimately contributing to the training of the next generation of data scientists who can solve issues in healthcare and medical domains.

Background of the Collaboration

Japan's healthcare sector is grappling with several structural challenges, including rising social security costs, a persistent shortage of medical professionals, and disparities in regional healthcare services. Addressing these issues requires a data-driven transformation that involves the scientific analysis of data accumulated daily in healthcare settings, leading to evidence-based decision-making and business improvements.

Moreover, the demand for next-generation data scientists goes beyond merely analyzing data; they must possess the capability to recognize underlying issues in the field and implement actionable solutions in society. However, access to high-quality healthcare data for academic learning remains limited, presenting a significant challenge in higher education.

Yukaria has been devoted to transforming healthcare practices through various initiatives, including hospital management support and the application of healthcare data. This collaboration will enhance Yukaria’s goal of training professionals who can confront healthcare challenges and derive solutions through data.

The philosophy held by Musashino University’s Data Science Faculty, encapsulated in its motto “From Local Insights towards Global Impact” and its focus on issue-oriented, solution-driven data science, aligns perfectly with Yukaria's mission, thereby facilitating the signing of this collaboration agreement.

Main Aspects of the Collaboration

The healthcare data provided by Yukaria will primarily support the Data Science Faculty's curriculum, particularly the compulsory course, “Future Creation Project,” as well as in senior research and ongoing studies at the university's Graduate School of Data Science and the Asia AI Research Institute. Students will analyze diverse healthcare data, including unstructured text data such as records of patients’ symptoms, outcomes over ten years, and nursing documentation. This exposure will enable them to confront the complexities and challenges that are unique to real healthcare settings, developing not only practical data analysis skills but also an aptitude for issue discovery and a vision for implementing solutions.

In addition to nurturing future data scientists, both parties are considering the possibilities for joint research initiatives in the future.

About Musashino University’s Data Science Faculty
