About Blue Zones Project
The Blue Zones Project is a community-led initiative designed to help individuals live longer and healthier lives by implementing sustainable changes across policies, systems, and social environments. It encourages easy access to nutritious food, natural movement, and community interaction.
This transformative project in Allentown is orchestrated by Executive Director Brooke Griffiths, an Allentown native with over 16 years of experience in health programs and community service. Griffiths aims to foster a healthier environment by focusing on the social determinants of health and promoting initiatives that make healthy living accessible for everyone.
The Blue Zones Project concept is rooted in research conducted by Dan Buettner, who identified cultures across the globe known for their longevity. By applying these findings, more than 75 communities in the United States have implemented successful initiatives, resulting in significant decreases in obesity and related health challenges.
