Insights Unveils Analysis of Results from Fourth Phase of Specific Health Guidance
Insights, a company based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, that provides health enhancement services and specific health guidance for medical insurance members, recently released the results of their analysis concerning the effectiveness of the fourth phase of specific health guidance initiatives. This phase commenced in the fiscal year 2024, and the analysis was conducted as part of the “Visualization of Results” consortium for specific health guidance.
The analysis found notable differences between the major performance target—measured by waist circumference and weight change from the time of specific health screenings—and the intervention results observed from the initial interview.
Major Performance Target vs. Intervention Results
In this phase of specific health guidance, a primary objective is achieving a reduction of 2 centimeters in waist circumference and a weight loss of 2 kilograms from the time of specific health screenings. However, evaluations of behavior changes and weight fluctuations from specific health guidance often use data from after the initial interview. Consequently, the analysis revealed that changes observed from the time of health screening to the initial interview do not always line up with results gauged post-intervention, suggesting a gap between these measures.
This gap indicates limitations in evaluating intervention results solely based on the attainment of major performance targets.
Impact of Time on Initial Interview Outcomes
The data analyzed, encompassing 510 participants, indicated that the average number of days from the health screening date to the initial interview was around 202 days, approximately six to seven months. This duration had a significant effect, resulting in variations in body measurements at the time of the first interview. For instance, comparing weight before the health screening with that at the initial interview showed an average increase of 0.4 kilograms.
Those whose waist circumference and weight had increased by the time of their first interview were found to be less likely to meet the primary performance targets. Conversely, many individuals who had already experienced reductions in these measurements before intervention often encountered challenges in achieving additional improvements through the specific health guidance.
The analysis strongly indicates that the changes in waist circumference and weight by the time of the initial interview significantly affect subsequent outcome evaluations.
Reevaluating Result Assessment Methodologies
Through this analysis, Insights emphasizes the importance of properly assessing the effectiveness of specific health guidance projects by organizing the following as distinct indicators:
- - Changes in waist circumference and weight from the specific health screening (Major Performance Targets)
- - Changes in waist circumference and weight from the initial interview (Intervention Outcomes)
Both indicators should be examined together to produce a comprehensive view of participants' health outcomes.
As part of the “Visualization of Results” consortium, Insights continues to work on ways to comprehensively understand and share the effectiveness of specific health guidance programs, providing valuable insights for insurers and related organizations.
