Kuradashi's Oichii Project 2025
Starting on May 30 and running until June 30, Kuradashi, a company based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, is set to kick off the 'Oichii Project 2025' in alignment with June's Environmental Month. This initiative centers around the theme, 'To Enjoy a Delicious Earth Forever,' aiming to raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable practices through food.
Background of the Initiative
June 5 marks 'Environment Day' in Japan, whereas the whole month is recognized as 'Environmental Month.' This designation highlights the need to acknowledge the importance of environmental preservation and to spark necessary actions towards it. Kuradashi’s mission continues to be that of a 'Social Good Company,' with a vision focused on becoming Japan's leader in reducing food waste.
With food waste identified as a significant environmental concern, Kuradashi takes a proactive stance by acquiring perishable foods nearing their expiration date, seasonal products, and items that have been damaged or affected by natural disasters, even if they are still consumable. These products are sold on their social good marketplace 'Kuradashi,' with a portion of the proceeds being funneled back into various social contribution activities.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, climate change has led to a notable decrease in global agricultural productivity over the last fifty years. This shift not only threatens food security but also projects a decrease in rice yields by approximately 80% by the end of the century due to rising CO2 levels and temperature increases in Japan.
By implementing the 'Oichii Project 2025', Kuradashi aims to reduce the amount of food that gets wasted due to these environmental pressures, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the flavors of a healthy planet.
Details of the 'Oichii Project 2025'
This year marks the program's third iteration, and to encourage participation, Kuradashi will organize a quiz campaign where participants can answer questions related to food and environmental knowledge. For every quiz response submitted, Kuradashi will donate one yen to the Japan Nature Conservation Association, reflecting their commitment to supporting environmental initiatives.
Alongside this, engaging events will be held in locations such as Tokyo Midtown Yaesu and Tama Plaza Terrace. A candle-making workshop will utilize recycled oil to create colorful candles, providing families an opportunity to reflect on environmental issues together.
Participating in the Quiz Campaign
To take part in the quiz campaign, participants can visit the project's official site or use the 'Green Ponta Action' app developed by Kuradashi’s collaborative partner, Loyalty Marketing Co., Ltd. Each quiz also offers a chance to win exciting prizes through social media engagement post-participation.
