Introducing Dr. Garry Menzel to Kalohexis Board
Kalohexis, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on transforming metabolic disease treatments, has recently appointed Dr. Garry Menzel, Ph.D., to its esteemed Board of Directors. This strategic move is set to bolster the company’s leadership in the metabolic disease landscape, particularly in innovative approaches to treating obesity and cancer cachexia.
A Wealth of Experience
Dr. Menzel brings to Kalohexis over thirty years of profound experience in global healthcare leadership. He has amassed a respected track record in guiding life sciences companies towards success. Russell Potterfield, the CEO of Kalohexis, expressed confidence in Dr. Menzel's expertise, noting that he has exhibited remarkable skill in advising and leading teams toward the development of lifesaving therapies.
“Garry's wealth of experience in the healthcare sector, particularly in life sciences, will be invaluable as we progress with our unique melanocortin-based strategies to restore metabolic balance,” said Potterfield.
Diverse Background
Dr. Menzel is notably recognized for his dual role as a seasoned healthcare executive and investor, boasting a rich background that spans science, finance, strategy, and operational management. His current position as an Operating Partner at Global Healthcare Opportunities (GHO) Capital, Europe’s leading healthcare-focused private equity firm, underscores his influential role in the sector. Prior to this, he served as President and CEO of TCR² Therapeutics, where he successfully led the company from inception through its clinical achievements, securing over $500 million in funding prior to its merger with Adaptimmune in 2023.
Menzel also co-founded Black Diamond Therapeutics, a recognized leader in precision oncology, and has held critical executive roles in various prominent organizations, including DaVita HealthCare Partners and Regulus Therapeutics, which was ultimately acquired by Novartis for $1.7 billion.
A Vision for Kalohexis
Dr. Menzel’s insights into the industry are underscored by his past as a strategy consultant with Bain and as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse. During his tenure in investment banking, he was pivotal in driving over $100 billion in transactions that shaped the biotechnology landscape.
“Kalohexis stands on the brink of revolutionizing obesity treatment with 710GO, focusing on enabling sustained weight loss without the adverse effects traditionally associated with incretins, such as lean muscle loss and weight regain after treatment,” Dr. Menzel commented.
His passion for innovating new therapies aligns perfectly with Kalohexis's mission to leverage the melanocortin system for combating metabolic disorders, including a focus on 710GO for obesity and mifomelatide for treating cachexia in advanced cancer patients.
Academic Credentials
Dr. Menzel’s academic pedigree is just as impressive as his professional achievements. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from St. John's College at the University of Cambridge and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Biochemistry from the Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine in London.
