RTX Collaborates with Royal Netherlands Air Force to Establish New Avionics Facility
RTX's New Military Avionics Service Center in the Netherlands
Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX, has embarked on a new venture with the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force (RNLASF) by signing a contract to establish a military avionics service center in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This initiative aims to strengthen the operational readiness of Europe’s F-35 and CH-47F fleets, ensuring that these advanced military aircraft maintain their peak performance in a rapidly changing defense landscape.
Strategic Partnership for Enhanced Capabilities
The collaboration between Collins Aerospace and RNLASF marks a significant milestone in military aviation support and service. Under this multi-decade partnership, Collins Aerospace will utilize its repair expertise and advanced depot technology tailored to the specific needs of the F-35 and CH-47F fleets. The company will also oversee the management of the repair supply chain, integrating it into their expansive global military services network.
Brian Barta, vice president and general manager for avionics aftermarket services at Collins Aerospace, highlighted the importance of this initiative. He stated, “Bringing our avionics repair capabilities to the RNLASF Air Support Command (ASC) military base will create substantial operational, logistical, and sustainment improvements for our European customers.” This aligns with RTX’s ongoing commitment to enhancing military readiness and support capabilities across Europe.
Complementing Existing Facilities
In addition to the new service center, these efforts will complement the already established F135 engine depot at the ASC, significantly expanding RTX's operational footprint in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the new avionics center will enhance Collins’ existing F-35 pilot readiness center located in Soesterberg, thereby establishing a comprehensive lifecycle sustainment solution for European clients.
The partnership also aims to support Collins' performance-based contract with RNLASF, which is focused on maintaining the readiness of the Dutch CH-47F fleet. This dedication to readiness is crucial, especially in an increasingly complex global environment where logistics and support are paramount.
Strategic Importance of Collaboration
Lieutenant General André 'Jabba' Steur of the RNLASF emphasized the need for top-tier readiness amid modern challenges. He stated, “In an increasingly contested logistics environment, 'Fight tonight, Fight tomorrow, Fight together' captures our commitment to achieving the highest possible mission readiness.” This mantra resonates deeply in today’s military landscape, where preparedness can make all the difference.
Gijs Tuinman, Secretary of Defense for the Netherlands, reinforced the strategic value of the collaboration, stating, “Together with Collins Aerospace, we will be increasing skills and advancing technical know-how in the Netherlands. This partnership showcases a strategic collaboration that supports our defense and technological base as we continue to contribute to NATO and its partners.”
Future Development and Timelines
The establishment of the avionics service center is set to initiate its depot capabilities in 2026, marking an important development in enhancing the support infrastructure needed for advanced military operations. As both organizations move forward, the focus remains on ensuring that they are equipped to meet future challenges while maintaining the highest standards of aircraft readiness.
