Globe Telecom Earns Honors for Sustainability and Environmental Commitment in Consumer Choice Awards

Globe Telecom's Green Triumph at the Consumer Choice Awards

On April 21, 2025, Globe Telecom emerged victorious at the Standard Insights Consumer Choice Awards, reiterating its leadership in sustainability within the telecommunications sector of the Philippines. The company earned accolades for the Most Sustainable Telecommunications Network and Most Active Telecommunications Network for Environmental Responsibility. These recognitions reflect a year-long commitment to integrating eco-friendly practices into their operations and garnering consumer support for such initiatives.

The Consumer Choice Awards utilized a comprehensive research-driven approach to gauge public sentiment about companies. With responses from 1,201 individuals across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao aged 18 and above, the survey aimed to represent the perspectives of mobile users, emphasizing those with active prepaid or postpaid plans.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, remarked, “We are actively embedding sustainability practices in our operations, from greening our network to providing customers with ways to participate and contribute to social good and environmental conservation. These awards not only validate our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact but also reflect our customers' awareness and support for our sustainability initiatives.”

Globe's journey towards sustainability is long-standing. The company previously won awards for its sustainability practices, with the titles of Most Sustainability-Driven Network in 2023 and Most Sustainable Brand in 2024 adorning its accolades.

One of the strategic measures taken by Globe to mitigate its environmental footprint is the adoption of renewable energy sources. This initiative includes solar power installations across their sites to curtail reliance on traditional coal-based electricity and diesel generators. By the end of 2024, Globe had established 53 sites powered by hybrid solar solutions.

Globe has also transitioned many of its offices and operational sites to renewable energy. As of February 2025, 33 locations have completed this transformation, moving towards the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Additionally, Globe's Valero Telepark was recognized with a Special Award for Innovative Technology from the Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards in 2024, showcasing its commitment to operating on 100% renewable energy and using AI for energy management.

To maintain energy efficiency, Globe has been ISO 50001 certified since 2022, which involves evaluating processes for improving energy usage. Their plans for re-accreditation further emphasize their ongoing commitment to this sustainability standard.

On a consumer engagement front, initiatives like EcoSIM—the first SIM card made entirely from recycled materials—and the Device Trade-In Program promote sustainable practices among users. Customers can responsibly recycle their old devices in exchange for discounts on postpaid bills, actively contributing to reducing waste.

In addition, Globe's Rewards program allows customers to convert points into donations for environmental causes, supporting noteworthy organizations including the Hineleban Foundation and the Philippine Eagle Foundation.

As a participant in the UN Global Compact, Globe is committed to promoting sustainable development. The company aligns its initiatives with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, prioritizing climate action and innovation in the telecommunications industry.
