Florida Polytechnic University Receives Major Investment for Transformative Growth and Development

Florida Polytechnic University is poised to enter an exciting new phase of growth, thanks to a significant financial boost from the state of Florida. The Florida Legislature has officially approved a remarkable $22 million allocation as part of the state’s 2025-2026 budget, aiming to enhance the university's educational offerings and infrastructure. This funding is crucial in supporting Florida Poly’s bold plans to increase student enrollment and expand its range of academic programs, particularly in the STEM fields, where demand is rapidly growing.

This investment is particularly earmarked for the construction of the Student Achievement Center (StAC), an innovative new facility set to enrich the student experience. Planned as a state-of-the-art support hub, the StAC will encompass a total area of 138,400 square feet and will host numerous resources aimed at fostering student success. With a budget of $85 million for the entire project, $12 million has been allocated to kick off construction. The center will focus not only on academic and career support but will also provide tools for professional development and programs that encourage student engagement.

State Rep. Josie Tomkow, who plays a pivotal role in representing the region, has expressed her enthusiasm about the impact this facility will have. "Florida Poly is transforming the landscape of higher education in our region, and with this new facility, students will gain access to the kinds of hands-on support and experiences that prepare them to step directly into Florida's growing technology sector," said Tomkow. She emphasized that this investment is expected to yield significant returns in talent and innovation.

In advocating for the university’s expansion, Florida Poly has also secured an additional $10 million in one-time funds dedicated to the 'Rising to 3,000' initiative, which aims to increase total enrollment to 3,000 students by the year 2030. This additional funding is expected to elevate the university's ability to attract talented individuals and improve its academic reputation further. Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of Florida Poly, remarked on the importance of this support, calling it a clear indicator of the university's essential role in the state's future. "We are deeply grateful to the Florida Legislature for investing in our momentum and helping us build the high-tech talent pipeline Florida’s economy depends on,” he stated.

Moreover, there's a growing acknowledgment of Florida Polytechnic University’s rising impact in terms of academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and economic development. State Rep. Jennifer Canady also articulated that this investment is crucial for Florida students, saying, "Florida Poly is creating a new kind of opportunity for Florida students – one grounded in excellence, innovation, and real-world application."

Florida Poly is distinct as Florida's only public university focused exclusively on STEM disciplines, a designation that positions it uniquely to meet the needs of the evolving economy. The new funding aims to enhance its mission to prepare the next generation of technology leaders through an emphasis on emerging technologies and industry partnerships.

State Sen. Colleen Burton, representing part of Polk County, has recognized the contribution of Florida Poly to the state's education landscape. She has underscored the importance of STEM-driven education and how it could influence the economy positively. "Florida Poly is not just educating students, it's shaping the future of Florida's economy," she said. The investment represents a commitment to boosting education that aligns with workforce needs in high-tech sectors.

The state budget that includes this vital funding is under final consideration and is awaiting approval by Governor Ron DeSantis. With the new fiscal year set to start on July 1, students and faculty alike are keenly anticipating the positive changes that will come from this substantial investment. As Florida Poly embarks on this transformative journey, it not only looks to enhance its educational offerings but also aims to solidify its position as a leader in STEM education across the state and beyond.
