The Legacy of Judy Stephenson: A Lasting Impact Through a New Scholarship Fund

Honoring a Legacy: The Judy Dodd Stephenson Legacy Scholarship

In a heartfelt tribute, President Devin Stephenson of Florida Polytechnic University recently announced a significant enhancement to the scholarship that honors his late wife, Judy Dodd Stephenson. This second gift of $25,000 to the Florida Poly Foundation transforms what was originally a scholarship established last year into a more meaningful tribute, now named the Judy Dodd Stephenson Legacy Scholarship. This gesture not only doubles the family's financial commitment to $50,000, but it also reflects their enduring dedication to student success.

Judy's recent passing has intensified the significance of this scholarship, which will now support students who face financial barriers while pursuing their educational dreams. For Devin Stephenson, this initiative represents a lifelong mission shared with Judy. Together, they believed passionately in the transformative power of education, a value they imparted to their children and one that will now extend to the scholarship recipients.

"Education has always been the cornerstone of our family's journey," said Devin Stephenson. "Judy and I always believed that no matter what success you achieve in life, your greatest contribution is the difference you make in the lives of others. This scholarship ensures her passion for uplifting people will endure by helping students build brighter futures and reach their full potential."

Judy Stephenson served as Florida Poly's first lady, embodying the values of integrity, compassion, and a firm belief in the role of education in ensuring success throughout life. Reflecting on their life together, Devin said, "We were blessed to build a beautiful life together, rooted in honesty, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. Judy's heart was always with the students. Knowing that her legacy will live on through their dreams and achievements means more to our family than I can express."

Previously, the scholarship benefitted only members of the Presidential Ambassadors program, but the newly expanded criteria allow for a broader range of students with demonstrated financial needs who maintain strong academic progress towards graduation. This change aims to help support more students who may be struggling to afford the costs of higher education.

Stephen Weingart, the chief development officer at Florida Poly, praised the Stephenson family for their generous contribution, stating, "We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Stephenson and his family. This additional gift, and the renaming of the scholarship to honor Judy, is a wonderful testament to her life. Her dedication to supporting students who face financial hurdles will be an enduring legacy that changes the trajectory of their careers, lives, and families."

The establishment of the Judy Dodd Stephenson Legacy Scholarship marks a profound commitment to fostering educational opportunity and championing the dreams of students at Florida Polytechnic University. By creating a lasting impact through financial assistance, the Stephenson family not only honors Judy’s memory but also fuels the aspirations of future generations of students, ensuring that their futures are brighter and more attainable.

As this scholarship program begins to impact students' lives, it reflects a shared belief that education serves as a powerful foundation for success. This initiative stands as a poignant reminder that even in times of loss, love, commitment, and legacy can inspire change and progress within the community. With the support of the Judy Dodd Stephenson Legacy Scholarship, many students will have the chance to realize their educational goals and navigate their paths toward successful careers, making their dreams a reality.
