Nifco Wins an Encouragement Award at MCPC Award 2025
Nifco, a company based in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, has recently earned an Encouragement Award at the 2025 MCPC Award for its innovative heat stroke prevention system utilizing batteryless sensors. This recognition came during the award ceremony held on November 26, 2025, at the Tokyo Prince Hotel, which celebrated outstanding contributions in mobile computing and technology.
About the MCPC Award
The MCPC Award was established in 2003 by the Mobile Computing Promotion Consortium (MCPC) to recognize entities that leverage mobile technologies, IoT, AI, 5G, drones, and cloud solutions. Participants are assessed across two main categories: User Division and Service & Solutions Division. The 2025 edition marked the 22nd anniversary of the award, with numerous organizations participating to showcase their innovative applications.
Award-winning System Overview
The awarded system developed by Nifco aims to prevent heat strokes in schools from elementary to high school levels. This system incorporates dedicated sensors connected through mobile networks to measure the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) values at various locations, including sports fields and gyms. This data can be accessed in real-time via a web browser, allowing school staff to monitor conditions without needing to be on-site, thus reducing discrepancies in measurement results.
One of the system’s standout features is its use of batteryless sensors, which eliminates the need for extensive installation procedures. This not only facilitates easy setup but also promotes energy efficiency, particularly with indoor sensors designed as wireless, battery-free devices, while outdoor sensors boast a long battery life.
Starting in June 2025, the system has been rolled out in 23 junior high schools and the Yokosuka Comprehensive High School within Yokosuka City, contributing significantly to the health and safety of students. Plans are in place to implement this system in an additional 44 elementary schools and 2 special needs schools in the city by the end of this fiscal year. Interest in this system has also surged from other municipalities.
In addition to the school-targeted application, Nifco is also trialing a heat stroke prevention system for general businesses that visualizes environmental data by area along with temperature and humidity readings for individual workers. Currently undergoing verification in nine companies, three have already committed to a formal rollout by spring.
