PJM Interconnection Welcomes Deena O'Brien as Senior Director of Corporate Communications

PJM Interconnection, a key player in the electric power industry, has announced that Deena O'Brien has been appointed as the new Senior Director of Corporate Communications. In this crucial role, O'Brien is set to oversee a broad range of responsibilities that include directing external and internal communications, enhancing creative services, and managing PJM's online presence.

O'Brien brings a wealth of experience to PJM, having spent many years in the energy, technology, and regulatory sectors. Her expertise in formulating effective communication strategies will benefit PJM's diverse stakeholder community, which includes regulatory authorities, consumers, and industry partners. "Deena brings deep experience in the energy, technology and regulatory sectors with a proven record of communicating effectively with stakeholders and the public," said Nora Swimm, Senior Vice President of Corporate Client Services at PJM.

Prior to joining PJM, O'Brien held significant positions where she honed her skills in communication. Most recently, she served as the Director of Corporate Communications at Johnson & Johnson, where she was instrumental in leading high-stakes communication and advocacy campaigns. Her ability to navigate complex regulatory challenges while maintaining a strong corporate reputation has been a hallmark of her career.

Before her tenure at Johnson & Johnson, O'Brien also worked at W.L. Gore & Associates in Newark, Delaware, as the Director of Corporate Communications. In that role, she led an external communications team and was deeply involved in dealing with regulatory challenges and opportunities, fostering relationships with both consumers and government officials.

O'Brien's experience is further underscored by her long history with Exelon, where she supported corporate communications initiatives focused on the generation fleet, particularly at the Conowingo Hydroelectric Generating Station and the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station.

O'Brien holds a bachelor's degree in communications and public relations from Capella University, which complements her practical experience well. Her appointment comes at a time when PJM is focusing on enhancing its communication with stakeholders. This is particularly significant given PJM's role in managing the reliability of the high-voltage electric power system that serves approximately 67 million people across several states including Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1927, PJM Interconnection is responsible for coordinating and directing the operation of a vast transmission grid, covering over 88,000 miles of power lines. Furthermore, PJM administers a competitive wholesale electricity market and plans necessary regional transmission expansions to mitigate congestion and ensure reliability. The organization's market operations are estimated to produce substantial annual savings of between $3.2 billion to $4 billion.

O'Brien's leadership is expected to significantly impact the organization as it continues to adapt to the evolving energy landscape, ensuring that communication with its stakeholders remains transparent, informative, and engaging as the company moves forward.
