Artist's Message

Reflecting on his journey, Mizutani shared, "Sixty years ago, there was no concept of sports photography in Japan. Most images were merely records; few sought the artistic side of it. I began with alpine photography before transitioning to skiing and various sports. But my focus has always been capturing unique moments that can only be seen through my lens. My work transcends traditional records and captures a level of expression distinct to my vision.

The exhibition represents not just a chronicle of sports history, but a testament to Mizutani's relentless pursuit of crafting new expressions from the dramatic intensity, power, and beauty embedded in competitive sports. His ability to capture the emotions of countless athletes reflects the pursuit of those fleeting moments of excellence.

Even today, the challenge of pursuing individual expression as a sports photographer persists. However, it is through continually seeking new interpretations that we can indeed capture moments far beyond mere documentation. Visitors are encouraged to dive deep into the universe of Akito Mizutani, whose tireless efforts over 60 years reveal a deeper connection with the world of sports.
