NCCN Guidelines Navigator: A Digital Revolution in Cancer Care Guidance

The NCCN Guidelines Navigator: Transforming Cancer Care

In a groundbreaking move for cancer care, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) has launched the NCCN Guidelines Navigator™. This innovative digital platform reimagines how oncology guidelines are delivered, ensuring they remain the gold standard in clinical decision-making.

The NCCN Guidelines, recognized as the most comprehensive and frequently updated clinical practice guidelines in any medical field, provide critical support to various stakeholders in the cancer care continuum. These guidelines help professionals, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, payers, and even patients with their caregivers, facilitate informed decision-making and improve outcomes for individuals fighting cancer.

A Surge in Complexity

As cancer care evolves, it is becoming increasingly effective but also more complicated. Crystal S. Denlinger, MD, the Chief Executive Officer of NCCN, emphasized that the new tool aims to simplify the daunting array of information. “This is truly the future of cancer treatment guidance,” she remarked. The NCCN Guidelines Navigator represents a significant leap towards improving the accessibility and usability of vital cancer treatment information.

Features of the NCCN Guidelines Navigator

The NCCN Guidelines Navigator is designed with intuitive features, allowing for a seamless navigation experience through the oncology guidelines.
  • - Table of Contents Navigation: Users can efficiently move through different guidelines using the table of contents.
  • - Advanced Search Functionality: Finding relevant information is streamlined through robust search capabilities and filters.
  • - Highlighting Tools: Users can mark significant pathways directly on the platform.
  • - Color-Coded Links: Navigation is made easy and engaging with color-coded features.
  • - Footnote Access: Direct links to applicable footnotes enhance understanding.
  • - Patient Resources: There are direct links to NCCN Guidelines for Patients® that empower patients with knowledge about their treatment options.

Accessibility and Free Use

This new digital offering is available without charge for non-commercial use through a simple sign-up for an NCCN account. The effort behind this initiative reflects NCCN's commitment to ensuring that the information is readily accessible to all who need it.

Future-ready Innovation

Continuing to push boundaries, NCCN has also initiated beta testing of the Navigator for specific cancer types, beginning with colon and prostate cancers, with rectal cancer to follow. As NCCN expands its offerings, the goal is to eventually encompass all 88 oncology guidelines within this new, interactive format while also maintaining the original PDF versions for ease of access.

In a further testament to the utility of this tool, users can also earn Continuing Education (CE) and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits by engaging with the NCCN Guidelines in Practice™ program, announced earlier this month.
