An Evening with Keiji Ashizawa: Unveiling His Creative Odyssey
On September 26, 2025, a much-anticipated event will take place at the KARIMOKU RESEARCH CENTER in Tokyo, celebrating the release of the October issue of the architectural magazine,
CONFORT No.205, themed
"Keiji Ashizawa: A Natural Adventurer". This special focus on architect Keiji Ashizawa marks a first for the
CONFORT magazine, as it dives deep into the mind and creations of a single innovative figure in architecture.
Keiji Ashizawa, born in Tokyo in 1973, has established himself as a multifaceted creator in the realm of architecture, interiors, and products. Known for projects like the Ishinomaki Workshop and collaborations with Karimoku Case, his work is both relatable and deeply insightful, making waves beyond Japan into international territories across Asia and Europe.
The event, which can be attended both in-person and via live streaming on YouTube, will offer attendees a unique opportunity to hear Ashizawa speak about his design philosophies and the innovative use of materials and details that characterize his work.
Mio Watanabe, the editor-in-chief of
CONFORT, will host the discussion, providing insight into not only the magazine's concept but also behind-the-scenes anecdotes from interviews and aspects that did not make it to print.
Ashizawa’s title of “Natural Adventurer” encapsulates his approach to architecture, where creativity marries functionality. As he navigates various creative projects, his understanding of spatial design goes hand-in-hand with his commitment to authenticity and sophistication, creating environments that resonate with elegance.
This
CONFORT issue is more than just pages of architectural marvels; it includes his latest residential project,
House in Kamakura, designed in collaboration with graphic designer
Akira Kijinuma. The magazine also features a discussion between Ashizawa and
Yonas and
Frederic from
Norm Architects, discussing cultural intricacies and mutual inspirations in design practices.
In addition to the launch of the magazine, the event promises to shed light on Ashizawa’s numerous significant projects, capturing the essence of his contributions to architecture. A special segment will feature various testimonials from people whose work and lives have intertwined with Ashizawa's journey, giving a glimpse into his personality that extends beyond his acclaimed designs.
The timing for such an event is perfect, not only to appreciate Ashizawa's work but to glean insights from an architect whose creations epitomize the harmony between artistry and pragmatism. Attendees are encouraged to bring their copies of the magazine for a richer experience during the discussion and to get them signed by the architect himself, marking a memorable evening for design enthusiasts.
