Limited-Time Cafe 'VEGETABLE LIFE' in Kagamiishi, Fukushima
From July 20 to August 17, 2025,
Happo-en will introduce a unique dining experience called 'VEGETABLE LIFE' in collaboration with local farmers in Kagamiishi, Fukushima. Situated within the
Hogarakan (Health and Welfare Center) in Kagamiishi, this limited-time cafe aims to highlight the delicious produce of the region while promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting the local community.
Happo-en, a company known for its comprehensive promotion projects, signed a partnership with Kagamiishi in March 2021 to stimulate local engagement and promote the town's agricultural significance. Prior events have included pop-up campaigns and kitchen truck visits that showcase the agricultural charm of Kagamiishi. This year's cafe promises to elevate that experience.
A Wish to Promote Local Agriculture
The VEGETABLE LIFE cafe will partner with local farmers to create exclusive menus featuring seasonal ingredients sourced directly from Kagamiishi. With Happo-en chefs skillfully integrating these fresh products into their culinary creations, the cafe aims to exhibit the allure of farming and boost interest in local agriculture, ultimately contributing to an increase in new farmers.
The menu will present dishes using local specialties like succulent peaches, sweet corn, and Kagamiishi’s signature rice, 'Makiba no Shizuku.' Highlights include:
- - French Toast featuring whole Kagamiishi peaches (Limited to 5 servings per day)
- - Whole Roasted Corn Pasta
- - Onion Cheese Curry using a whole onion
Each meal will not only tantalize your taste buds but also allow guests to connect with the region's agricultural heritage. By tasting directly sourced ingredients, patrons will gain insights into Kagamiishi's farming lifestyle.
Events and Educational Collaborations
In addition to delicious food, the cafe will feature displays that celebrate local farmers and their work. Collaborations with
Iwase Agricultural High School and
Koriyama’s Japanese Culinary Technical School promise to create a platform for knowledge exchange and mentorship. Students may engage with customers through fun quizzes and surveys that educate visitors on the region’s farming practices.
While enjoying great food, visitors can also witness the stunning seasonal 'Rice Paddy Art,' a local summertime attraction that brings an artistic touch to the scenic beauty of Kagamiishi. The cafe will serve as a vibrant hub where people can experience both culinary delights and the hard work of local farmers.
