Supporting Students: 5th Year of the 'Shogaku Napkin' Initiative for Free Menstrual Products

A Year of Support: The 'Shogaku Napkin' Initiative Returns for 2026

As of April 8, 2026, Daio Paper Corporation, known for its flagship sanitary product brand, Elis, will reopen applications for its 'Shogaku Napkin' program. This initiative, aimed at supporting students facing challenges in obtaining menstrual hygiene products, will grant 2,000 students a year's supply of free menstrual pads.

Since its inception in 2022 as part of the diversity-focused 'meet my elis' project, the 'Shogaku Napkin' initiative is now in its fifth year. Over the past four cycles, more than 20,000 applications have been received, leading to the distribution of free menstrual products to 8,000 students. The program has received backing from over 25 supporting organizations. Through feedback from previous participants, we have witnessed improvements in hygiene practices due to increased change frequency, as well as a reduction in financial burdens, allowing students to focus on their studies and activities.

The Importance of 'Shogaku Napkin'

Recent surveys reveal a significant number of students (88.2%) have experienced difficulties when their menstrual cycles coincide with school events, leading to restrictions in their participation in physical activities, such as sports festivals or events. The statistics indicate a deep-seated issue where menstrual health impacts not only individual well-being but also overall educational experiences.

Elis aims to alleviate these challenges through the 'Shogaku Napkin' program, fostering a more understanding and supportive environment for students. Starting from April 8, aspiring applicants can visit the program's special website to submit their applications. This year's drive will incorporate surveys targeting students, allowing the initiative to further tailor its offerings to meet diverse menstrual needs.
