Colt DCS Achieves 27% Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2025

Colt DCS Achieves Significant Milestone in Sustainability

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), renowned for its innovative solutions in data management, has recently released a groundbreaking Sustainability Report that highlights their substantial strides in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As of 2025, the company has successfully lowered its emissions by an impressive 27%, compared to its 2019 baseline. This achievement marks a significant commitment to environmental responsibility and illustrates Colt DCS's dedication towards decarbonizing its operations.

The latest report details the company's performance in various environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas. One of the report’s key highlights is Colt DCS's transition to 100% renewable electricity in Scope 2, which emphasizes their commitment to sourcing energy from sustainable sources. Furthermore, the company noted that 90% of its total energy consumption across all three scopes—Scope 1, 2, and 3—now comes from renewable sources. These successes reflect the comprehensive strategies implemented by Colt DCS to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability throughout its data center operations.

In addition to achieving renewable energy targets, Colt DCS has advanced its Global Reference Design (GRD). This strategic blueprint incorporates lower-carbon materials and energy-efficient systems, guiding the architectural development of new data centers. The company aims to reach a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.2 and divert 75% of waste from construction and 90% during regular operations. This initiative underscores the company’s resolve to integrate sustainable practices into its core operational framework.

A critical component of the GRD is the focus on water conservation and cooling efficiency. The design employs chilled water systems that utilize low-environmental-impact refrigerants and incorporates rainwater harvesting systems for non-potable indoor applications. Furthermore, the introduction of closed-loop liquid cooling systems ensures that heat is transferred without relying on evaporation, showcasing innovation in resource management.

The 2025 Sustainability Report also highlighted Colt DCS's achievement of the Great Place To Work certification, with 92% of employees affirming the company as an excellent employer—an uptick from 87% the previous year. Colt DCS was also recognized as The Best Talent Developer of the Year at the Data Centre World Awards, emphasizing its commitment not just to the environment but also to its workforce.

Moreover, Colt DCS achieved TRUE Zero Waste certification across three of its sites, including major facilities in London, Tokyo, and Osaka. The global PUE reached 1.41, while the company also secured ISO 27001 and ISO 14001 certifications, cementing its status in information security and environmental management.

Anthea van Scherpenzeel, Head of Environmental Sustainability at Colt DCS, expressed pride in the progress made towards substantial emission reductions. She noted that their strategy involves comprehensive whole life carbon assessments, enabling customers to pinpoint areas for emission reductions and optimize design choices. By partnering closely with suppliers and industry stakeholders, Colt DCS remains confident in its ability to meet Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) objectives and make ongoing advancements towards a net-zero future by 2045.

Dina Nassar, Sustainability Analyst at Colt DCS, remarked on the challenges posed by the rapid expansion of AI technologies and the ensuing demand for efficient data center operations. She stressed the importance of their improved GRD in meeting these challenges proactively and facilitating further efficiency gains.

As the data center industry continues to evolve with the growth of AI and interconnected technologies, Colt DCS sets a commendable example of how businesses can align their operational goals with sustainability efforts. Their latest achievements not only benefit the environment but also contribute to a more resilient and responsible industry.

Conclusion

With a clear commitment to innovative strategies and practices aimed at reducing its environmental impact, Colt DCS exemplifies what it means to be a modern entity in the data center industry. Their ongoing journey towards sustainability offers valuable insights and serves as inspiration for others looking to prioritize environmental responsibility in their operations.
